💌 A Little Chaos, A Little Sparkle… and My FIRST Shaker Card Ever
I swear on my foam strips…I was DONE with Valentine’s Day.
I had moved on.
I was elbow-deep in a wedding album.
My pearls were drying.
My Valentine scraps were stacked in the “put away or—don’t judge me—maybe toss??” pile.
And then…
💥 BAM 💥
My brain yeeted a brand-new idea into existence:
“What if we made… a shaker card?”
A shaker card.
My first-ever shaker card.
Completely unplanned.
Powered by chaos, leftover scraps, and one absolutely feral creative impulse.
And the wildest part? The design practically built itself because it’s the same layout I made a few weeks ago — BUT THIS TIME the die-cut heart from the shaker window became the perfect centerpiece for a whole second card…. The one I made a few weeks ago!
Two cards, one cut. A crafting miracle. 🙌
Before I knew it, I had made TWO versions — one Real Red, one Flirty Flamingo — both using the same design, the same dies, and the scraps I almost threw out. (Add that to “sentences that give a paper crafter anxiety.”)
And then I realized something even sweeter:
With one tiny change in sentiment, this wasn’t just a Valentine’s Day card… It became a paper hug — the exact kind of card someone needs after a rough day.
(Ask my neighbor. She practically squealed at 1 a.m. when she found hers.)
So grab your foam strips, your window sheet, and those scraps you think you’re done with, crafty friend, because…
✨ We’re about to SHAKE, RATTLE & SPREAD THE LOVE with this Valentine’s Day shaker card! ✨
✂️ MATERIALS FOR THIS VALENTINE’S DAY SHAKER CARD
Here’s every single thing I used to build this unexpectedly fabulous shaker moment.
❤️ Patterned Paper (DSP)
Used for the card front. (The negative cut becomes the perfect centerpiece for a second card — I KNOW. Magic.)
❤️ Cardstock
• Stampin’ Up!® Basic White Cardstock (8-1/2" X 11")
– Backing layer behind the shaker window
– Stamped sentiment strips (“Sending You Love”)
• Stampin’ Up!® Real Red Cardstock (8-1/2" X 11")
– Full A2 card base for the red version
– Die-cut “XX” embellishments (Endless Love Dies)
• Stampin’ Up!® Flirty Flamingo Cardstock (8-1/2" X 11")
– Full A2 card base for the pink version
– Die-cut “XX” embellishments for the pink variation
❤️ Stamps & Dies
– “Sending You Love” sentiment
– XX die-cuts layered on the smaller heart
– Arrow accent for the final touch
– Used to cut the patterned paper panel for the card front
– Small solid heart layered over the shaker window
– (The die that cuts the shaker window heart is from your Deckled Rectangles method — but the heart itself comes from this bundle.)
❤️ Inks
Used with the MISTI to mass-stamp the sentiment strips.

❤️ Embellishments (a.k.a. The Sparkle Sitch)
– The actual shaker filler (!!!)
– Also sprinkled onto the card as decoration
– Tiny hearts applied to shaker jars + arrows
– Used on the red card variation for a little extra wink
– Used on the Flirty Flamingo card for soft shimmer
❤️ Tools & Adhesives
• Die-Cutting Machine — for hearts & accents
• Stampin’ Up!® Paper Trimmer — all base cutting
• Stampin’ Up!® Bone Folder — crisp A2 card folds
• Stampin’ Up!® Foam Adhesive Strips — for shaker movement
• Stampin’ Up!® Window Sheet — shaker window

• MISTI Stamping Tool — perfect, repeatable sentiment stamping

💖 LET’S SHAKE THINGS UP — HOW TO MAKE THIS VALENTINE’S DAY SHAKER CARD
Step 1 — Build Your Card Base
Start with an 8½” × 11” sheet of Stampin’ Up!® cardstock in either Real Red or Flirty Flamingo (your pick — the photos show Flamingo, but the process is identical for both).
Cut it in half at 5½” to create two A2 card fronts, then score each one at 4¼”.
Use your bone folder to crease that fold nice and crisp — and remember:
PRO TIP: After scoring, fold into the raised ridge, not away from it. Your card will lay flatter, look cleaner, and behave like it was crafted by a woman who did NOT make her first shaker card at midnight. 😂
Now set those bases aside while we build the shaker magic.
✂️ Step 2 — Die-Cut the DSP Frame and Your Shaker Window Heart
(A.K.A. the moment this card becomes a two-for-one miracle)
Grab your Made With Love DSP and cut it to 4¼” × 5½” — a full A2 card front size.
Now here’s where the magic (and the efficiency 😏) kicks in:
Use your Stampin’ Up!® Deckled Rectangle Dies to cut a window out of the CENTER of that DSP panel.
This leaves you with:
a deckled DSP frame (which you can use on another card 👀), and
a perfectly sized DSP rectangle that will become the actual card facing for your shaker.
It’s like the die did the scrap-saving for you.
Because YES — this replaces that “cut tiny strips for a frame” nonsense from last week's card.)
Now take that inner DSP rectangle you just cut, place your Hearts of Elegance heart die about ½” down from the top, and run it through your machine.
✨ BOOM! You just created:
the heart-shaped WINDOW for the shaker card, and
a second patterned DSP heart you can use to build the matching non-shaker card.
Step 3 — Add the Window Sheet & Build the Shaker Cavity
Flip that DSP card-facing over so the back is staring at you.
This is where the shaker magic officially begins.
First, cut your Stampin’ Up!® Window Sheet to about 3½” × 3½” (or just a smidge bigger than your heart opening). Precision isn’t critical — it just needs to cover that window completely.
Run a thin line of glue around the back edge of the heart opening (not the whole panel — JUST the heart).
Lay the window sheet on top and press it down gently.
Grab your Foam Adhesive Strips and outline your heart window with foam strips.
❤️ Option A — Shape the foam around the actual heart
This gives the sprinkles a smooth, snug cavity and keeps them centered beautifully.
❤️ Option B — Create a simple rectangle with foam strips
Works perfectly too — especially if shaping around curves stresses you out.
The foam tape MUST also run all the way down the outer edges of the DSP card-facing…otherwise the center layer will sag when you glue it to the card base, and we’re not living that life.
Now sprinkle time!
🌟 “How many sprinkles do I use?”
There’s no official rule — but here’s the honest truth:
• My first red card? I went HEAVY.
Cute, but unnecessary… and it ate into my stash. 😅
• On the pink cards, I went lighter — and honestly? More shake. More movement. More fun.
So somewhere between “generous” and “cost-effective chaos” is the sweet spot.
Once the sprinkles are in place, peel the release paper off your foam strips and press your Basic White cardstock backing layer firmly on top to seal everything in.
Once your sprinkles are sealed inside (and you’ve admired it for at least three seconds 😂), flip the entire shaker panel over and add adhesive around the back edges.
Center it onto your folded A2 card base
— Real Red for the red version, Flirty Flamingo for the pink — and press firmly.
Boom. Your shaker front is officially mounted and READY for embellishments.
Step 4 — Stamp the Sentiment & Die-Cut All the Cute Little Things
Now that your shaker insert is sealed (and you’ve definitely shaken it at least twice), it’s time to give this card its personality.
Start by cutting Basic White into strips sized 4” × 1¾” — this height gives the sentiment room to breathe so the proportions stay clean and intentional.
Load up your MISTI and stamp:
SENDING YOU
LOVE
Crisp, bold, and ready to steal the whole show.
➤ Die-Cut Your Embellishments
Now it’s time to make all the little pieces that bring your shaker to life:
❤️ Small Layering Heart
• Die: Hearts of Elegance
• Cardstock: Real Red or Flirty Flamingo
❤️ “XX” Accents (your signature pop)
• Die: Endless Love
• Stack THREE layers for delicious dimension
🏹 Cupid’s Arrow
• Die: Endless Love
• Paper: Silver Foil
Step 5 — Bring the Front to Life: Sentiment, Hearts & All the Pretty Bits 💘
This is the moment where your shaker goes from “cute” to OH HELLO, YOU ADORABLE LITTLE SHOWSTOPPER.
Start by gluing your pre-stamped “Sending You Love” strip near the bottom of your shaker panel. This anchors the whole layout and creates the perfect landing spot for embellishments.
Next, take your small cardstock heart and tuck it into the RIGHT side of the sentiment strip so it hugs the shaker window — just a little overlap, not enough to hide your sprinkles.
Now layer that triple-stacked XX right on top of that overlapping heart.
➤Add the Arrow — Your Final Cupid Moment
Snip the arrow die-cut right at the center — this gives you two perfectly usable pieces (and yes, we love a good two-for-one moment 😉).
• Arrowhead (the point):
Glue this little cutie directly on top of the large heart, slightly angled upward on the right side. No tucking — this piece sits boldly on top, like it just burst through the heart mid-flight.
• Fletching (the feathered end):
Slide the feathered end slightly under the bottom-left curve of the big heart, but on top of the sentiment strip. This keeps the layering clean, intentional, and dimensional.
📸 This placement gives your card the perfect “Cupid absolutely GOT somebody today.”
look — balanced, adorable, and full of movement.
Finish by adding embellishments that match your card version:
❤️ Real Red card: Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems
💗 Flirty Flamingo card: Iridescent Pearls
💖 WRAP-UP — THE LITTLE SHAKER THAT COULD (AND DID!)
And just like that… your Valentine’s Day shaker card is DONE — shaking, sparkling, and showing off like a tiny disco heart.
This project wasn’t planned.
It wasn’t on the schedule.
It wasn’t even on the table — literally, it was in the “scraps pile.”
But sometimes the BEST projects sneak up on you…
right after you put everything away.
Whether you send it as a Valentine, a friendship card, or a tiny hug for someone who had a rough day, this little shaker delivers pure joy the moment you hear that soft rattle.
Magic doesn’t always come from planning.
Sometimes it comes from a last-minute “Ooooh wait… I have an idea.” 💡💘
💘 “But Wait… There’s MORE!” — Bonus Cards from Your Leftover Hearts
Okay, my crafty friends. You know how we ALWAYS preach “never toss a scrap”?
Well… these shaker cards proved it again because the moment you die-cut that big heart window, you’re secretly crafting TWO CARDS at once. 🙌✨
Those leftover patterned-paper hearts?
Yeah. They turn into adorable full cards — same layout, same “Sending You Love” glow, just without the shaker cavity. And honestly? They’re so cute they look like the intentional twin set you planned from the start (even though we know you were seconds away from sweeping them into the trash—GASP 😱).
I made one in Real Red and one in Flirty Flamingo, skipped the deckled border this time, kept the embossed white background, layered my XX die-cuts… and friend. The vibes? Crisp. Clean. Elegant. Coordinated.
This is the kind of glow-up only paper scraps can give.
