From Layout to Card: How Scrapbook Clusters Can Spark Cardmaking Magic! ✂️🌼📸

You ever finish a 12x12 layout, stare at that perfect little embellishment cluster, and think, “Oh honey… you’re too cute to live in a scrapbook alone”? SAME.
That’s why I started doing something a little genius (if I do say so myself): I recreate my favorite layout clusters as handmade cards. Yup—when the embellishment magic hits just right, I let it live a second life on a card front. And guess what? It works both ways! Some of my card clusters are so fire, they get promoted to full layouts. BOOM!
Today’s card was inspired by a cluster from my Oscar the Green Cheek Conure scrapbook layout—an explosion of feathers, florals, and personality. But this blog isn’t just about Oscar (even though we love him). This post is about how YOU can turn scrapbook layout ideas into cardmaking brilliance—and vice versa—with the help of a Paper Pumpkin kit and a little creative remixing.
Check out the 12x12 layout that started it all—featuring Oscar the Green Cheek Conure!

The March 2025 kit, Daisy Daydream, was packed with dreamy daisies, soft spring colors, and just the right pop of happy vibes. It paired perfectly with the birdhouse cluster from my Oscar layout and gave me the tools to turn that 12x12 moment into a feel-good 5x7 card.
Let’s take a look at how it came together!

Card Construction: From Scrapbook Clusters to Card Magic✂️🌼🐦
🌼 I started with a 5x7 piece of hollowed-out Mossy Meadow cardstock for the card base and adhered it to a pre-made 5x7 white card. I hollowed out the center first and used that scrap to die cut my leaves. It lightened the card and gave my scraps a job—practical magic, baby!
🌼I layered two predesigned card backs (yes, card backs)! from the Daisy Daydream kit to create the main panel. I trimmed them down to 4-3/4” to 6-3/4” and centered it over the Mossy Meadow border. The Daffodil Delight honeycomb print felt like the perfect sunny backdrop for a get well card. Paired with daisies—the happiest flower I know—it was an instant pick-me-up combo.
🌼 I created the birdhouse exactly like the one in my Oscar layout. I placed it on the card (no glue yet!) to preview the spacing and flow.
🌼 I added Mossy Meadow leaves using a mix of Sweet Memories Thin Cuts and Impressions Abloom dies.
🌼 The die-cut daisies came from the Paper Pumpkin kit—no cutting required, just pop them out & layer into place!
🌼 I also added three of the shimmery honeycomb pieces from the kit for a little sparkle that didn’t overpower the card.
🌼 Now, the kit came with bees… but the sweet woman I was sending this card to LOVES butterflies! So I swapped them out using the Honey Bunny Digital Art Kit, cutting butterflies from Daffodil Delight and Pool Party cardstock.
🌼 Finally, I designed the “Get Well” sentiment in Cricut Design Space and cut it from Basic Black cardstock. That grounding black pulled the whole design together and tied in the black from the birdhouse, creating a full visual loop from bottom to top.
