💀 It Started with Scraps… and a Caffeine Buzz
So picture this: I’m staring down a pile of Halloween paper scraps like, “Do I toss them?” and then my craft brain said, “ABSOLUTELY NOT, GIRL.” 💅
I had the last of my Spooky Sweet DSP, a handful of half-cut papers, and a desperate need to break in my new Stampin’ Up! bundles. Next thing I know, my craft table looked like a haunted paper factory exploded—and I was loving it.
This layout was born from chaos, caffeine, and creativity—proof that sometimes, the best ideas come from your scrap pile (and a little bit of glittery rebellion). ✨
So grab your glue, dust off your trimmer, and hold onto your broomstick, Boo—because this layout is proof that scraps + sass = spooky perfection. 🪄👻

🖥️🪄 Design Space Magic: Planning Before the Panic
Confession time: before I start gluing, I always make a mess in Design Space first. 😅 This layout was no exception. I used it to double-check my scrap sizes, proportions, and placement—because there’s nothing worse than realizing your favorite paper’s an inch too short after you’ve glued down a tombstone.
It wasn’t just about vision—it was about making sure my leftover pieces were measured, matched, and mission-ready before the chaos began. The Cricut only handled the details: my “RIP,” “DEC 2023,” and those sneaky Hidden Mickeys from Pumpkin Pie DSP (because even ghosts deserve a little Disney magic). 🎃✨
🧙♀️ How to Make This Spooky Sweet 12x12 Halloween Scrapbook Layout
Now that our plan is in place and every scrap is measured to spooky perfection, it’s time to bring this Haunted Mansion-inspired layout to life—layer by layer, one perfectly placed pumpkin at a time. 🎃
Step 1: 🧱 Build Your Base Like a Boss Witch
Grab two 12x12 sheets of dark chalky DSP—it’s your eerie canvas. On each side, run a ¼” strip of black cardstock down the far edges. That gives the layout its crisp, shadowy border.
Then come those window-pattern DSP panels (4” x 12” each), one on the far left and one on the far right. Now, layer your gray DSP blocks (9½” x 8¼”) so they meet in the middle, like haunted double doors—lined up so clean that it’ll make your trimmer proud.
And now for the candy-corn magic—those alternating strips across the middle:
Left page: Petunia Pop 6x4 + Pumpkin Pie 3½x4
Right page: Pumpkin Pie 4¼x4 + Petunia Pop 5¼x4
✨ Pro Tip: Mixing colors across both pages keeps your eye moving and your layout from feeling too “matchy-matchy.” Think of it as trick-or-treat for your paper!
Step 2: 🕸️ Picture Perfect (With a Side of Spooky)
I know—I’m a big-photo kinda gal. But this time, I went mini to squeeze in more spooky goodness across the spread.
Vertical photos: 3½” x 5½” on Basic Black cardstock, matted in White Willow.
Horizontal photos: 4½” x 3½” black bases with crisp white mats.
Layer ‘em, line ‘em, and let that contrast POP. The white mats make your photos glow like ghosts in a midnight fog. 👻
💡 Pro Tip: When you’re working with dark DSP, double-mat every photo. It adds breathing room and instant drama—like eyeliner for your layout. 🖤
Step 3: 🎃 Cluster Up, Buttercup
Now for the part that makes my heart go pitter-pat: the embellishment clusters. Each one brings its own personality, texture, and a little Haunted Mansion drama. 🕸️
Top Left Cluster:
Let’s start with the top left cluster — my “Boo Crew” title corner. I used a Deckled Circle Die as the base, layered with an embossed tombstone (created from a Fright Night tag die run through the Exposed Brick 3D folder), then inked the edges lightly with CTMH Intense Black to give it that aged-stone vibe. The RIP and DEC 2023 Cricut cuts add instant texture, and tucked between them? Hidden Mickeys, of course. Because what’s a Halloween layout without a little Disney haunting? 🐭💀
Top Middle Cluster:
Next up, the top middle cluster — and oh, she’s got attitude. This one shows off one of my favorite design tricks: balancing color and weight. I started with a Deckled Circle Die (edges softly inked with CTMH Intense Black) and built from there. The star is that dark pumpkin — die-cut in Basic Black cardstock, then stamped in white to create that gorgeous shadow effect. It’s surrounded by spiderwebs from the Fright Night Bundle, a soft Smoky Slate sprig from the Golden Greenery Dies, and finished off with a Granny Apple Green vine from the Beautiful Pumpkins Bundle. The mix of matte black, soft gray, and bright green brings just the right touch of eerie elegance — basically, Halloween couture. 🖤
Bottom Right Cluster:

Finally, we’ve got the bottom right cluster — spooky, floral, and full of attitude. That gorgeous gray poinsettia was cut from the Poinsettia Petals Bundle and nestled right into a web of Fright Night die cuts. The sprigs? Total happy accident — leftovers from another layout, cut on my Cricut in Smoky Slate cardstock, but they worked like a charm here. The Granny Apple Green vine winds around the pumpkin above, pulling the whole design together and giving that eerie pop of color I love.
And yes, that tombstone makes another appearance, embossed and aged to perfection. But the real star of this cluster? That spider! 🕷️ I added him after I’d already started photographing the layout because something just felt missing. When I saw that little guy sitting on my desk, I thought, “Yup—this is it.” He might’ve joined the party late, but he completely stole the show.
✨ Pro Tip: Never be afraid to make a last-minute addition. Sometimes the perfect finishing touch shows up after you think you’re done—listen to your gut (and your glitter).
💀 Finishing Touches & Final Frights
