Hello, memory-keepers! Today, I’m sharing a special scrapbook layout inspired by my son’s unforgettable role in the high school play Little Shop of Horrors. This wasn’t just any performance—my little man and the cast delivered a captivating show, and I knew this memory deserved to be captured in a way that was as vibrant and dramatic as the play itself.
The Story Behind the Layout
In Little Shop of Horrors, Audrey and Seymour have anything but a “happily ever after.” Instead, the story takes a dark turn, which the cast brilliantly brought to life! The play’s vibrant set, costumes, and final scenes left a lasting impression on my son, and I wanted this layout to reflect both the eerie atmosphere and his love for acting.
Why I Chose CTMH’s New Colors
CTMH recently introduced stunning colors like Jade, Journey, Royal, and Rosy, which matched the costumes and stage elements beautifully. These bold shades added life to each page, capturing the energy and mood of the scenes while enhancing the visuals of Audrey II and the climactic final moments.
Materials Used
• CTMH’s New Colors (Jade, Journey, Royal, Rosy): Perfect for replicating the vibrant colors of the costumes and stage set.
• Design Space Elements: Potted plants, a desk, and a clock brought the flower shop setting to life.
• “Design Elements” Stamp Set: Used for creating textured backgrounds, like the notched wood walls in the flower shop.
• Leaf Stencil: To mimic Audrey II’s vines, I used a stencil to create the iconic creeping vine look.
Pro Tip: If you’re lacking specific supplies, try using stencils and digital elements to replicate the details from your photos. This way, you can bring out unique features of the story without needing exact replicas.and extending across the set.
Creating the Layout: Step-by-Step Inspiration
1. Crafting Vines with a Stencil
Without vine embellishments on hand, I used a leaf stencil to create sprawling “vines,” adding an eerie, organic element to the layout. Layering the CTMH inks Jade, Journey, and Royal provided shadows and depth, enhancing the haunting feel of the page.
2. Custom Details in Design Space
Using Design Space and my Cricut®, I cut out elements like potted plants, a desk, and a clock. These pieces helped set the scene, adding context and depth to the layout while keeping the focus on the photos.
3. Adding Texture with Stamps
To replicate the notched wood effect from the play’s set, I used the “Design Elements” stamp. This small detail created a textured, vintage look for the flower shop walls, making it feel like an extension of the stage.
