š§āāļø Step 1: Visualizing the Layout in Design SpaceĀ®
Before making a single cut, I mapped everything out in Design SpaceĀ®. This step saves cardstock, ensures everything fits perfectly, and lets me visualize how the cauldron, potion effects, and photo mats will come together!
š Pro Tip: If youāre working with a limited supply of DSP, planning your layout digitally first helps you get the most out of your materials!
Step 2: Prepare the Photo Mats
1. Double-Mat Your Photos: I used Granny Apple Green Cardstock (from the Halloween Memories Two-Toned Cardstock) to create six 3.5ā x 3.5ā photo mats. I then created six 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 mats in White Daisy.
2. Inking the Edges: Before attaching the mats, I inked the edges of the Granny Apple Green photo mats with Garden Green Stampin' Ink for added depth and a glowing effect. Half of the mats were made from the dark side of the Two-Toned Cardstock, and the other half used the lighter side.
3. Adhere the Mats Together: After inking, I adhered the front and back mats together to create dimensional photo frames.
š® Step 3: Crafting the Right-Hand Page Layout
For the right-hand side, I used Black Cardstock as the base. The black backdrop made the elements stand out.
2. Position the Photo Mats: Once the mats were assembled, I positioned them on the left-hand side of the black cardstock, ensuring they were evenly spaced and aligned.
3. Add Strips: Cut straight vertical strips from the Halloween Spells DSP (diagonal striped pattern in Pool Party color) and adhere them vertically on the black cardstock as shown below.
4. Potion Books Strip: In the Halloween Spells DSP, you will find a piece of patterned paper filled with stacked Potion books. You can cut at 3-inch intervals and create strips. I added a strip that will sit on top of the Pool Party colored strips. The rows of potion books mimicked the idea of stacked recipe books, enhancing the theme.
Tip: To add more depth, I ran the edges of the Pool Party-colored strips along the CTMH Lagoon Ink Pad. For a bolder contrast, I ran the book strip along the Intense Black Ink Pad.
š·ļø Step 4: Left-Hand Page Layout ā Cauldron Magic!
Iāll admit, I was feeling a little backward when I started this layout. Most people would probably begin with the left-hand side, but I was too excited about using black as my base page for the first time! I just had to see if it was going to work before moving on to the left page. š
1. Base Page: For the left side, I used a piece of White Daisy Cardstock as the base.
2. Add Strips: Just as I had done on the right side, I adhered a piece from the Pool Party colored paper strip along the far left edge of the page. I then added the inked Stack of Potion Books strip next to it.
3. Position the Cauldron: The Black Cardstock cauldron was placed centrally on the page, with the handles positioned about 5 1/2 inches from the top.
4. š„ Glow-up time! Using a blending brush + Granny Apple Green ink, I created a soft, eerie glow effect beneath the cauldronāgiving it that bubbling, potion-brewing vibe!
5. Add Title: The main title, āHalloweeniesā, was placed at the top right with foam tape for dimension, while the secondary title was placed directly underneath and adhered flat to the page. Both were designed in Design Space and cut with my Cricut.
š Step 5: Adding the Recipe Book Embellishment
š¤ Cut from White Daisy & Festive Glimmer Paper for extra sparkle.
š¦ Stamped spooky sentiments & ravens from the Potions & Spells bundle.
šÆļø Placed at the bottom of the cauldronābecause no witchās brew is complete without a haunted recipe!
š Step 6: Finishing Touches ā The Details That Make This Layout POP!
āØ Festive Glimmer Paper Bubbles ā Because every potion needs shimmer!
šø Double-matted 3x3 photo over the cauldronābecause whatās better than a floating pic?
šøļø Garden Green ink-blended edges for maximum Halloween vibes.
