Card or Treat Bag? These DIY Treat Bag Toppers Are Both šŸ˜ (Mini Cards That Hold Snacks!)

Bag of gold-wrapped chocolates with a label reading "Oh, bother. You deserve a little treat" and Winnie-the-Pooh design, against a soft background.
Stampin’ Up! - ā€œSilly Old Bearā€ DSP - This is where it all started… and it escalated QUICK šŸ˜…

Can you believe that I almost didn’t buy this set?

Like… it sat in my cart for a hot minute while I told myself, ā€œyou don’t need another packaging dieā€¦ā€

Yeah. That would’ve been a mistake 😬

Because the second I started playing with it, everything clicked.

Not in a ā€œoh this is cuteā€ kind of way…

but in a ā€œwait… what even IS this??ā€ kind of way.

Is it a card?

Is it a treat bag?

Is it pretending to be both?? šŸ‘€

Because suddenly I wasn’t just making treat bags anymore… I was making mini cards… that just happen to hold snacks.

And honestly? That changes everything.

Customer gifts āœ”ļø

Kid parties āœ”ļø

Neighbor drop-offs āœ”ļø

Movie night snacks āœ”ļø

DOG TREATS?? šŸ¶āœ”ļø

Now instead of: ā€œDo I bring a card and something extra?ā€ It’s:

šŸ‘‰ This is the card.

šŸ‘‰ This is the treat.

šŸ‘‰ This is the whole moment.

And before your brain jumps straight to holidays (because I KNOW it did šŸ˜),

I wanted to start with everyday ideas first. Because this? This is just the beginning.

Grab your supplies, because we’re about to turn one little die into a whole system šŸ’„āœØ

šŸ›ļø Materials for DIY Treat Bag Toppers That Double as Mini Cards

Same base. Endless possibilities. Once you know the simple double-panel structure, you can dress it up for any theme, sentiment, or celebration
Same base. Endless possibilities. Once you know the simple double-panel structure, you can dress it up for any theme, sentiment, or celebration

Before we jump into putting these together…

Normally, I would walk you through every single version step-by-step, but I’m going to be honest… once I started making these, I didn’t stop šŸ˜…

And instead of writing 50 separate blogs… I wanted to show you how the system works so you can take it and run with it.

Because once you understand how these go together, you can make them for literally anything.

āœ‚ļø The Must-Have Bundles (Your Foundation)

Let’s Put This Baby Together

šŸ‘‰ How to Make DIY Treat Bag Toppers (The Easy Way)

Colorful handmade gift bags displayed on a beige surface, with designs like "Thank You Teacher" and "Dog Treats," featuring stars and hearts.

Before we even get to cutting, start by picking your theme—because that’s really what drives everything with this project.

Are you making something for a birthday? Movie night? Dog treats? Teacher gifts? This is where you decide the vibe first, then pull your papers, cardstock, and embellishments to match.

Once you’ve got that figured out, then you’re ready to cut your pieces using the Playful Packaging dies.

You’ll need:

• 2 top pieces (front + back)

• 2 bottom pieces (front + back)

• 2 handle pieces

And when I say ā€œ2 of each,ā€ I’m talking about the die shapes, not matching paper. Your front and back can be completely different—and honestly, that’s where this project really starts to shine.

šŸ‘‰ Same structure… endless combinations.

If you’re making a bunch (which… you probably will šŸ˜), go ahead and cut everything at once and group your pieces together. It makes assembly so much faster later.

Once Your Pieces Are Cut, It Comes Together Just Like a Mini Card… With One Little Twist

Start by building your front and back panels:

Step-by-step guide for making a double-panel treat topper. Includes images of blue and yellow paper pieces, cutting, and assembling instructions.
šŸ’„ Six cuts. A couple of folds. And suddenly you’re dangerously prepared for every holiday on the calendar.

• Attach your top piece to your bottom piece for both the front and the back. (Put together, mine measure 4ā€x3ā€).

• If you’re using it, add your 4ā€ x 1/4ā€ strip across the seam to cover where they connect (hello, scrap buster šŸ‘)

Now here’s the part that makes it all work…

Your top piece has a small flap—this is what holds everything together.

Fold that flap toward the back of both your front and back panels.

šŸ‘‰ Think of it like a seam: you’re folding it inward so it gets hidden on the inside once everything is attached.

Before assembling, go ahead and decorate your front while everything is still flat (trust me on this one šŸ˜…).

Once your front is ready:

• Attach your two handle pieces together.

• Adhere the handle to one of the folded flaps

• Then glue the two folded flaps together, sandwiching the handle in between

Paper craft with animals, a bow, and text: "Oh, bother. You deserve a little treat." Set on a grid-pattern cutting mat.
Small enough to keep it simple… big enough to make it special.

That’s it!

No complicated steps, no overthinking—just glue, press, and let it dry.

My finished panels measured about 4ā€ x 3ā€, which honestly turned out to be the sweet spot. It’s just enough space to layer in a sentiment, a couple of embellishments, or even a little strip across the seam without everything feeling crowded.

It gives you more room than a typical small tag, but still keeps that quick, giftable feel.

These go together so easily… It’s the decorating that’ll have you making ten more ā€œjust becauseā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

šŸŽ‰ And Just Like That… You’ve Got a Whole Collection

Here’s where things get fun. What started as one idea… turned into a full lineup. Not because the project is complicated, but because once you realize how easy these are to customize, it’s really hard to stop at just one šŸ˜…

You can keep it simple… or go all out depending on your mood, your stash, or how extra you’re feeling that day. And the best part?

šŸ‘‰ This is just a sample.

There are still birthdays, holidays, get-well, thinking-of-you… all the moments we haven’t even touched yet.

So if your brain is already spinning with ideas…

good. That means you get it šŸ˜āœØ

šŸ’Œ Still in the Crafting Mood? Let’s Keep It Going… šŸ˜

Okay… so now that your brain is officially in ā€˜what else can I make?’ mode šŸ‘€ā€”let’s not stop at treat bags. Because if you loved the idea of turning paper into something thoughtful and a little extra… just wait until you see what you can do with a simple card.

Quick cards.

Layered cards.

Cards that look like you spent hours (but didn’t šŸ˜)

The kind of projects that make people stop and say:

ā€œwait… You MADE that??ā€

So if you’re ready to keep that creative energy going… take a peek at some of my other card designs. Fair warning, though…

šŸ‘‰ once you start clicking, you’re not leaving anytime soon šŸ˜‚āœØ.

šŸ’Œ Now It’s Your Turn… And I Know You’re Gonna Get Creative With This

This set almost didn’t make it into my cart… but I am so glad it did.

And now? It’s one of those things I’ll reach for without even thinking. Not because it’s complicated… but because it solves a problem.

It’s quick.

It’s cute.

It actually gets used.

And somehow… it turns the smallest little treat into a whole moment.

So if you’ve been sitting there thinking,

ā€œI don’t really need thatā€¦ā€ yeah… I said the same thing šŸ˜

✨ And here’s the fun part… this is actually a pre-order perk of being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, which means I got to play with it early—and trust me, this one’s worth it.

It will be available in the May 2026 catalog, so go ahead and mark your calendar now… because this is one you’re going to want in your stash.

If you’ve been on the fence about it… consider this your sign šŸ’„āœØ
