Popcorn. Proposals. Papercrafting at midnight.
That’s the short version of what inspired these cards a nautical little thank-you made for someone who’s been helping me keep my head above water… and my deadlines afloat.
During one of our late-night work sessions, the company owner I work for mentioned that he used to sail mid-yawn and popcorn handful. And THAT was all the spark I needed.
So I grabbed my Stampin’ Up! Sunrise Sailing Bundle and got to work! Armed with Classic Stampin’ Pads, cardstock, shimmer, and a whole lotta gratitude, I got to work!

Step-by-Step Tutorial: How to Craft This Seaworthy A2 Thank-You Card with the Sunrise Sailing Bundle ⚓
You’ll be creating two different A2 flip-up cards:
Step-by-Step: How to Make This Nautical A2 Thank-You Card ⛵✨
Step 1: Cut Your Card Base
Time to flip up some fun!
• For the vertical card, cut 4¼” x 11” and score at 5½”
• For the horizontal card, cut 5½” x 8½” and score at 4¼”
Step 2: Cut the Card Front Panel
Both cards use a 4” x 5¼” panel for the card front. Rotate to fit your card base direction.
⚠️ This is your canvas—get ready to paint the sky!
Step 3: Prep for Blending
Slip the panel into your embossing folder and make a tiny mark where your sky meets the sea. You’ll blend around this line to create the perfect nautical horizon. 🌅
Step 4: Blend the Sky
With a blending brush, create sunset magic using:
• Daffodil Delight (golden glow)
• Petal Pink (warmth)
• Misty Moonlight or Gorgeous Grape (Twilight drama)
Step 5: Blend the Water
Now for the splash zone! Use Pool Party to softly blend across the bottom half. Think calm, glassy water—not cannonball chaos! 🌊
Step 7: Emboss the Card Panel
Place the whole panel into your embossing folder and run it through your Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine.
Here’s where the texture party begins! ✂️⚙️
Step 8: Add Two-Tone Waves
Gently swipe your Misty Moonlight ink pad across the embossed waves. Boom—dimension! This step makes your water pop like sunlight glinting off the ocean. 🌊✨
Step 9: Craft the Sailboats
Time to sail! ⛵
• Emboss two Basic Black pieces and one White Willow
• Die-cut all three
• Use one solid black boat as-is
• For the second, trim the white sails and glue them onto the black boat = instant layered detail!
Step 10: Foam-Tape Those Boats
Pop those sailboats up like they’re riding the waves! Place them directly over the embossed boat outlines for a 3D effect that says “nautical but make it dimensional.” 🧜♀️
Step 11: Die Cut & Place Your Birds
Cut birds from Basic Black cardstock and place them strategically to form a visual triangle.
Bonus? They guide the eye across your layout like pros. 🐦🐦🐦
Step 12: Optional Sentiment
Got extra space on the horizontal card?
Stamp the “Ahoy” sentiment just left of the boats to balance the design. Smooth sailing, sailor! ⚓
Step 13: Add That Shimmer!
Use your clear shimmer brush across the waves for some ✨sunshine sparkle✨.
Think gentle glisten, not disco ball. (Unless you’re feelin’ it.)
Step 14: Dress Up the Inside
Blend a soft hint of sky colors on the inside panel, stamp your sentiment, and add one more bird for flair.
It’s subtle, masculine, and totally swoon-worthy. Just enough pizzazz, no rhinestones required.
Why These Cards Were More Than Just a Project ❤️
This wasn’t a “for the blog” or “for the algorithm” card.
This was a “you’ve had my back through some rough waters and popcorn-fueled spreadsheets” card.
And the fact that you can make a card this impactful with just a little ink, foam tape, and heart? That’s why we do this.

Final Thoughts: Handmade Thanks Hit Different
Look, I didn’t swab the deck or hoist a sail.
But I did show my gratitude with layers of ink, foam tape, and a die-cut bird in flight.
And yes, it was probably fueled by my third bowl of popcorn that night.
Popcorn might not be glamorous, but it powered the brainstorming, the cardmaking, and the quiet reminder that small gestures can make big waves.
Next up? I think it’s time to craft a card that celebrates our real MVP: the popcorn dinner.
Because if it’s going to be a major food group, it might as well be a featured embellishment, too. Lol! 🍿
So grab your bundle, blend your sky, shimmer your waves, and make something that sails its way straight to someone’s heart.
No yacht required. Just paper, love, and maybe a little popcorn on the side.
