I’m April, and today I’m excited to share a vibrant 12x12 single-page scrapbook layout featuring “The Little Mermaid.” This page captures a special moment from our visit to Disney’s California Adventure, right in front of Ariel’s Undersea Adventure ride. Join me as I walk you through how this page came to life and offer tips and materials that will inspire your own Disney-themed layouts.
A Fun Story Behind the Photo
During our trip, my son was set on skipping Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, but I had my heart set on experiencing it. We compromised by taking a photo in front of the ride, with a promise to ride it the next time. On our next visit, we made good on that promise and have since turned it into a beloved tradition, adding smiles and laughter each time.
Crafting the Magic with Design Space®️ and Cricut®️
To bring this layout to life, I started with a clear vision and turned to Design Space®️. This handy tool allowed me to visualize the page, determine precise measurements, and get my cuts just right for a balanced design.
Materials Used for This Layout
• Background and Papers:
Stampin’ Up!’s “Unbounded Beauty” DSP: The perfect underwater-themed background with its rich colors and whimsical details.
Glimmer Paper
• 2024-2026 In Color Glimmer 12”x12” Specialty Paper & “Three Colors Glimmer” Paper: Adds sparkle to the design, capturing the shimmer of an underwater scene.
Stamps & Dies
We Go Dies: Creates pinwheels in varying sizes, adding movement and fun to the design.
• Beauty of the Deep Stamp & Die Set: To create sea-themed elements and embellishments.
Each of these sets brought something unique to the layout, and I love how they complement each other.
Cardstocks
• Shy Shamrock cardstock and 2024-2026 In Color Inks: Used to stamp seaweed on both white and Shy Shamrock cardstock for added variety.
Photo Matting:
• For the photo, I double-matted it using a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 piece of Petunia Pop cardstock, a 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 piece of white daisy cardstock, and a 4 x 4 photo.
SVGs and Finishing Touches
Custom SVG designs from Etsy featuring beloved Little Mermaid characters, printed and colored with Stampin’ Up!’s 2024-2026 In Color markers.
• Foam Strips & Adhesives: For layered dimension and durability.
Layout Design: A Place for Every Memory
This layout was designed to highlight one special photo, framed with double mats and enhanced with vibrant Disney-inspired colors. The combination of the pinwheels, glitter paper, and sea-themed elements brings the underwater theme to life.
Adding Waves with Glimmer Paper
For this layout, I wanted the waves to have that extra shimmer to really bring the underwater theme to life. Using my Cricut®️, I cut the wave shapes from Stampin’ Up!’s Glimmer Paper, and it turned out beautifully! The Glimmer Paper cuts perfectly on the Cricut, retaining every detail of the design. I found that placing the Glimmer Paper face up on the mat worked best, allowing the machine to cut through cleanly without losing any sparkle.
Tips & Tricks for Using “Round We Go” Dies on Glimmer Paper
When working with Glimmer Paper, I discovered a few techniques to keep everything secure without sacrificing that beautiful shimmer.
Step 1: Assembling Pinwheels
• After gluing the edges of each pinwheel, use paper clips to hold them together and prevent any movement while they dry.
• Once the edges are secure, apply glue to the top circle of each pinwheel and place a clear ink block over it. This will keep everything in place and apply even pressure while drying, ensuring a smooth finish.
Step 2: Adding Stability with Fabric Stiffener
• To prevent pinwheels from flattening in your scrapbook, apply a fabric stiffener like Aleene’s Stiffen-Quick. Spray lightly, let it dry, and reapply if necessary. This technique is especially helpful when working with Glimmer Paper, as it reinforces the structure without dulling the sparkle.
Step 3: Adhering Pinwheels to the Page
• Before attaching each pinwheel to the layout, add foam strips or dots in any hollow areas for added support and stability.
• Apply glue to the base of the pinwheel and adhere it to the page. To ensure it’s securely attached, place a clear stamp block or ink pad on top to hold the pinwheel down while the glue sets.
By following these steps, you’ll keep your Glimmer Paper pinwheels secure and sparkling, ensuring they stay true to form in your layout!
A Heartwarming Reaction To My Finished Layout
As I was adding the final touches, my son peeked over my shoulder and said, “WOW! THAT’S AWESOME!” It made my heart smile, especially since it was once a photo he didn’t want to take. This page is more than just a layout; it’s a cherished memory we both love. And honestly, the photos don’t do justice to the sparkle and glimmer on this page. If you’re a fan of Glimmer Paper like me, don’t be afraid to go big—it’s worth it!
