Our second Christmas trip to Disneyland and another magical stay at the Paradise Pier Hotel—tropical vibes and Disney memories captured in this 12x12 layout!

There’s something extra magical about a Disney sequel — not the movie kind, but the vacation kind. This was our second Christmas trip to Disneyland, and of course, we booked another stay at Paradise Pier Hotel… because when you find paradise, you don’t just visit once… You RETURN like a woman on a mission for Dole Whip and magical memories. 🌊🌴✨

This trip had its own personality — the tropical lobby decorations, the cozy coastal colors, the Christmas sparkle, the laughter, the late-night giggles… even the “view” that wasn’t exactly our view, but we’ll pretend it was because the hallway was THAT pretty. 😂

And the real star?

Our room overlooked the hot tub.

Yes, ma’am.

We had a Hot Tub Surveillance Suite™ with a direct line of sight to see exactly when the crowds cleared so we could live our best vacay life. Pure Disney strategy. Pure joy. Pure scrapbook gold.

So grab your coffee, your favorite trimmer, and your glitter gun…

Because today, we’re turning this memory into a 12×12 Paradise Pier – Disney-Inspired Scrapbook Layout that will make you feel the sunshine all over again.

Let’s get crafting! ☕✂️✨

🌊✨ Step-by-Step: Creating This Paradise Pier Disney Scrapbook Layout

1️⃣ The Shiplap Background: Coastal Vibes, Activated! 🌊

Creating the perfect shiplap background using White Willow cardstock and a CTMH Linen Ink Pad. Beachy vibes, check! White ink pad labeled "Linen" on a ruler-marked board against a rustic wooden background. Text reads: ThisChickLovesPaper.com.
Creating the perfect shiplap background using White Willow cardstock and a CTMH Linen Ink Pad. Beachy vibes, check!

This layout starts with coastal charm — a hand-created shiplap background that instantly brings out the beachy boardwalk vibe of Paradise Pier.

Score your Stampin’ Up! White Willow cardstock, then lightly swipe with CTMH Linen ink to mimic real wooden planks. The lines, the texture, the softness — it all sets the tone for the layout.

The key here is pressure and patience. Press too hard and the lines get harsh; press too light and the effect won’t show. Once the texture is perfect, let it fully dry so your layers sit clean and crisp.

2️⃣ Layer Your Foundations for Depth, Movement & That Disney-Coastal Vibe

Layering patterned and solid cardstocks for depth and dimension—Disney tropical perfection in the making!

With the shiplap background ready, it’s time to build the layered foundation that gives this Paradise Pier Disney scrapbook layout its signature flow.

Starting from left to right, begin with your boldest patterned piece — a 3 ½” × 12” strip of the Otterly Adorable DSP. Ink the edges of this strip (and every other DSP piece) to soften the transitions and bring out that warm, beachy, resort-inspired texture.

Right up against the right edge of that DSP strip, add a slender accent of color: a ¼” × 12” strip of Lost Lagoon cardstock.

This little piece may be narrow, but it packs a punch — it creates a clean separation line and gives your pattern a beautifully intentional frame.

Next comes your main overlapping layer: a 4” × 10 ½” piece in Pretty Peacock cardstock, nestled slightly over the Lagoon strip. This is where the page picks up its depth. Pretty Peacock adds that rich, ocean-inspired contrast that instantly echoes the Paradise Pier color palette.

Finally, anchor the far-right edge of the layout with another ¼” × 12” strip of Lost Lagoon cardstock. This balances the entire design from both sides, creating a harmonious flow that leads the eye across the page — just like walking through the Paradise Pier lobby at Christmastime, where colors, textures, and layers guide you from one magical detail to the next.

3️⃣ Adding the Tropical Embellishments: Flowers, Leaves & Pops of Pink! 🌺

Stampin’ Up! Happy Hibiscus dies and stamped flowers bring this layout to life with pops of tropical color.
Stampin’ Up! Happy Hibiscus dies, and stamped flowers bring this layout to life with pops of tropical color.

Now comes the part where the whole layout starts to feel like a mini tropical escape — the florals! The Happy Hibiscus Bundle is perfect for this project because it’s a Two-Step Stampin’ set, which allows you to layer two coordinating images to create one beautifully dimensional flower. That extra layer adds softness, highlights, shading, and detail without needing a dozen supplies — which makes these blooms truly stand out on a tropical-themed layout.

Start by stamping your hibiscus flowers on White Willow cardstock using your layered colors. I mixed shades of Pretty Peacock, Pool Party, and Lost Lagoon, alternating which color served as the outline and which filled the centers. Two-Step stamping nestles each image into the next like puzzle pieces, creating that natural depth that feels soft, airy, and sunlit. Once stamped, die-cut each flower with its coordinating die for those crisp edges we all love.

To brighten the clusters, die-cut a handful of tiny hibiscus flowers from Melon Mambo cardstock. These little pops of pink go a LONG way in giving your layout that bright, cheerful, tropical spark — the same happy burst you get walking past the Paradise Pier hotel pool area.

Next, cut your leaves using Old Olive and Garden Green cardstock. Ink all the edges with Old Olive to create natural shading, and then deepen the embossed veins using your Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends. This creates instant dimension and makes the leaves look REAL — like they’re lifting right off the page.

When you arrange all the flowers and greenery together, your page transforms. Suddenly,y you’ve got warmth, depth, movement, and all the tropical Disney energy packed right into the florals. It’s the moment the entire layout starts giving major Paradise Pier coastal resort vibes — exactly what you want.

Pro Tip: Two-Step Stampin’ permits you to get wildly creative with color combinations.

For this layout, I kept it simple by layering two solid coordinating colors…

But you can absolutely level this technique UP:

✨ Stamp the light color first, then use a Stampin’ Blend marker to deepen or shade selected areas before stamping the second layer.

✨ Or stamp the outline in a darker color and fill the centers with a multicolored blended ink pad or ombré effect.

4️⃣ Double-Mat Your Photos to Make Every Memory Shine

Now that the foundational layers are in place, it’s time to bring the photos onto the page — and this layout absolutely shines with double mats. Double matting not only frames your photos beautifully, but also gives them breathing room, adds contrast, and helps each image pop against the shiplap and tropical colors.

For this layout, I used one larger feature photo and two smaller square ones.

Here are the exact measurements so you can recreate this look perfectly:

Scrapbook page featuring vacation photos: a scenic view with a Ferris wheel and a cozy hotel room. Leafy border, wood background.
Double-matted photos in Pool Party and White Willow cardstock keep the tropical theme cohesive.

📸 Main Photo

  • Photo: 4” × 6”

  • White Willow mat: 4 ¼” × 6 ¼”

  • Pool Party second mat: 4 ½” × 6 ½”

This large photo anchors the page and draws your eye into the story — in this case, the beautiful hallway view that felt just as magical as the room itself.

📸 Two Supporting Photos

Both supporting images are sized the same, creating balance across the design:

  • Photos: 4” × 4”

  • White Willow mats: 4 ¼” × 4 ¼”

  • Pool Party second mats: 4 ½” × 4 ½”

These smaller photos are perfect for the moments that deserve their own spotlight — like that hilarious Hot Tub Surveillance Suite™ view that still makes me laugh every time I scrapbook it.

Once all three photos are double-matted, you’ll notice how the soft Pool Party blue and crisp White Willow create a dreamy, coastal frame around each memory. The contrast directs the eye precisely where it needs to go, and the layered mats blend seamlessly into the rest of the tropical palette already on the page.

🌟 Pro Tip: Ink the edges of your mats — yes, even the white ones!

A soft swipe of ink around the edges adds subtle dimension and keeps your photos from looking “flat” on the page. It’s an easy way to elevate the entire layout and give your mats that polished, professional finish that takes your scrapbook pages from lovely to WOW.

5️⃣ Titles & Focal Points: Let’s Get Layered!

This is where the layout really comes alive — the titles, subtitles, and decorative clusters that give your page its personality and tie everything together. For this layout, I used the Deckled Circle Dies to create elegant, layered circles, and each one is double-matted for extra visual impact.

Scrapbook page with floral designs features a photo of plants. Text reads "A Room With A View!" Includes pink, green, and teal hues.
Deckled Circle Dies frames the layout’s titles and embellishments, adding the perfect focal points.

The bottom layer is cut from Garden Green cardstock, while the top layer is made from White Willow, giving you that clean, crisp contrast that sits beautifully against the tropical blues and greens on the page.

Just like the other elements on this layout, I inked the edges of both the Garden Green and White Willow circles.

This soft halo of color adds subtle dimension and gives each circle a gentle lift, making them stand out as focal points instead of disappearing into the background.

Because the Happy Hibiscus Bundle doesn’t include title dies or stamps suited for this theme, I created my title in Cricut Design Space®. I studied the style of the Paradise Pier Hotel sign — the curves, the playful movement, that nostalgic California-boardwalk feel — and chose a font that echoed that look as closely as possible. Once the title was finalized, I cut it using my Cricut and placed it inside one of the deckled circles, giving the layout a polished, custom-designed finish.

Scrapbook page with "Disney Paradise Pier Hotel" in colorful text, surrounded by blue floral designs. Features photos of an amusement park.
Because every Disney page needs a little hidden magic… Mickey style. ✨🐭

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Disney layout without my signature Hidden Mickeys!

I cut these tiny Mickey silhouettes from CTMH Shortbread cardstock, which gives them a soft, subtle pop against the greens and blues. I nestled them inside and around the deckled circles, not just as magical little Easter eggs, but also to help establish a visual triangle that pulls the eye across the page and brings harmony to the overall design.

This combination — layered circles, inky edges, a custom Cricut title, and those adorable hidden Mickeys — creates a moment of pure Disney-coastal joy right in the middle of the layout.

🌟 Pro Tip: Repeating the same shape throughout your layout is a secret design trick that instantly creates cohesion.

By using circles for the title, subtitles, embellishments, and hidden Mickey clusters, your eye naturally follows the flow of the page. It creates a sense of movement and guides the viewer through the story — one circle at a time.
