šŖāØ Bubble, Bubble⦠Letās Build This Hocus Pocus Halloween Card!
1ļøā£ Crafting the Base & Brewing That Shimmering Background
Every spell begins with a strong foundation, so I started by creating a 5ā x 7ā card base using Stampinā Up! Thick Basic White cardstock. Cut it at 10ā x 7ā, score at 5ā, and fold it crisply.
⨠Pixie Pro Tip:
Score first, then fold toward the raised side of the score line for that perfect professional finish that witches rave about.
From there, I cut five 1ā x 5ā strips of glimmer paper ā a mix of the Three Colors Glimmer Paper and 2024ā2026 In-Color Glimmer Paper ā because Hocus Pocus without sparkle? Not on my broomstick.
I adhered the center strip first, then added the remaining four above and below it, leaving a sliver of white space between each one to let the shimmer breathe. The layout already glows like a Salem night sky.
Now for the detail that frames it all without overwhelming the stripes:
ā A thin Basic Black cardstock strip goes directly on top of the top glimmer strip.
ā A second thin Basic Black cardstock strip goes directly under the bottom glimmer strip.
Not between every color.
Not running along the panel.
Just these two borders ā creating clean transitions where the glimmer fades into the white space reserved for your Cricut borders.
2ļøā£āAmuck, Amuck, Amuck!ā ā The Border Every Witch Needs
Ā Next came the borders that scream Sanderson energy:
āAmuck, Amuck, Amuck!ā
Since no stamp in my stash had this iconic line, I created them as Cricut Print & Cut element. I was already cutting the hair silhouettes from Basic Black cardstock, so it made perfect sense to let Cricut handle this part too.
These two borders instantly anchor the theme, whether someone recognises the movie right away or just feels the mischievous Halloween vibe.
3ļøā£ Preparing the Scene ā Double Mats, Ink Blending & Bubble Placement
Before adhering anything permanently, I built the stage:
A double mat using Stampinā Up! Basic Black cardstock with a Basic White postage die-cut layered on top.
Then I temporarily placed my die-cut cauldron and Cricut-cut hair silhouettes on the mat to plan out the scene. This little āpretend assemblyā helps determine:
⨠where the green glow should sit behind the cauldron
⨠where the potion bubbles will float
⨠how the silhouettes will frame the magic
Once I knew the spacing, I removed the cauldron and hair and used a blending brush + CTMH Limeade ink to add a subtle green glow under where the cauldron would sit. Think of it as the spell seeping out from beneath the pot.
Next, I stamped the bubbles directly onto the white mat using CTMH Sundance, Limeade, and Lemonade ā bright and fizzing like a potion about to overflow.
4ļøā£ Cauldron Magic ā Embossing, Dimension & A Touch of Spellwork
With the background prepped, it was time to bring the cauldron to life.
I heat-embossed the cauldron in black embossing powder, creating that glossy cast-iron effect every self-respecting witch demands. Then I embossed the bubbling ooze in bright green and stamped āA Little Hocus Pocusā from the Potions & Spells Bundle using CTMH White Daisy ink.
Assembly matters here:
ā The cauldron itself is adhered flat to the mat
ā The green ooze is popped up with thin foam tape so it really looks like itās spilling over
ā The hair silhouettes (already cut in Step 2) are added last ā popped up with foam tape so they float above the scene like the sisters rising over the cauldron
Everything now has shadow, dimension, personality, and just the right amount of witchy drama.
When a Card Has a Little Magic of Its Own
Once the shimmer settled and the last bubble was stamped, this Hocus Pocus card took on a life of its own ā the kind of project that feels a little enchanted, a little mischievous, and very proud of itself. And honestly? It had every right to be.
And hereās the best part: even though I made it for Halloween, this card decided it wasnāt done spreading magic. My son suddenly needed a birthday card for his friend Mia, and I didnāt have one ready ā but I did have this witchy masterpiece. So I whipped up a quick Cricut sentiment that said āHave a Wicked Birthday,ā tucked it inside, and off it went.
She loved it.
He loved it.
And it reminded me that handmade cards donāt just sit on shelves⦠they live their own little adventures.
Sometimes the best magic isnāt in the supplies ā itās in the memories they make. āØš
