When it comes to holiday movies, "Christmas Vacation" is my absolute favorite flick!
While most Christmas movies center around an encounter with Santa, Elves, or Reindeer, Christmas Vacation is about a "normal" family trying to celebrate the holidays. But as we all know, holiday celebrations don't always go as planned! Poor Clark!! This movie definitely adheres to Murphy's law!! It's reality mixed with slapstick, flawed characters that we all can relate to & endless one-liners that will make you laugh every time... There is just something about this movie that so stunningly captures the true spirit of Christmas and family! I just can’t get enough of it!!
Recently I pulled out some photos that I wanted to use with the "Let’s Go Anywhere" collection from Close To My Heart. The photos are of my little man and me as we are getting ready to hit the road for our annual Christmas vacation in Disneyland.
The
AsII wasm looking through the papers to see which ones matched my photos the best, a little voice in my head kept saying...
"We're kicking off our fun, old-fashioned family Christmas by heading out into the country in the old front-wheel drive sleigh to embrace the frosty majesty of the winter landscape" - Clark W Griswold
The quote is from the opening scene in the movie. From that moment I knew that I would be using that scene as my inspiration for this page!!
Your Spelled Griswold Wrong
No, the name is not misspelled. My son's last name begins with "Graz". We have a running joke that We Are The "GRAZ"wolds. I thought that would be a fun little detail to add to the page. (Click photo for link to purchase SVG)
Incorporating Iconic Movie Lines
As the Griswold family is heading out on the open highway on their way to find their perfect Christmas tree, Clark gets into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with some truck drivers. As Clark is speeding to get ahead of them, he calls them "Liver Lips" and tells them to "Eat my rubber" & "Burn some dust". I wanted to incorporate not only the iconic phrases but also the visual of the "family truckster eating rubber and burning dust. Thus the mud splats.
Mud Splatters
To finish the page, I added embellishments from the "Let's Go Anywhere" digital art kit and some danger signs from design space. I am just thrilled at the way this page turned out! My son is too and suggested that I continue to make additional pages using other scenes from the movie. So who knows, maybe there will be a sequel!
