Lions, tigers, and scrapbook layouts—oh my! This Wizard of Oz-inspired scrapbook layout captures the heart of my little man’s starring role as the Cowardly Lion, bringing a beloved childhood story to life on a 12x12 double-page spread!

Person in lion costume with expressive face, brown mane, and drawn whiskers. Bright background with soft lighting. Playful mood.
The bravest little lion on the stage! 🦁✨ This performance wasn’t just a school play—it was the start of something magical!

With Close To My Heart’s “The Good Life” collection, I recreated the rustic charm of Auntie Em’s Kansas home, the swirling tornado, and the adventure that led my little lion straight to the Emerald City (aka, the school stage!).

Bringing Movie Magic to Life 🎭✨

🍿 How It All Started—With pepperoncini-flavored popcorn in hand, I sat down to rewatch The Wizard of Oz for inspiration. I took notes on the details—the dramatic black-and-white beginning, the windmills, the sunbursts, and of course, the Yellow Brick Road! Every frame sparked an idea for my layout!

Scrapbook layout with rustic themed papers, sewing patterns, and text "Simply Thankful" and "Happy Birthday." Features browns and blues.
Farmhouse charm meets scrapbook magic! 🏡 This collection set the perfect stage for my Wizard of Oz-inspired layout!

🎩 The Perfect Paper Collection—CTMH’s The Good Life had ALL the vintage farmhouse vibes I needed to bring this vision to life! With its soft neutrals, warm tones, and rustic patterns, it felt like Kansas was coming straight off the page.

Designing My Own Emerald City 🌪️✨

No flying monkeys here—just a whirlwind of creativity with Design Space® and my Cricut®!

Farm-themed collage with barn, fences, wheelbarrow, and windmill. Text includes "FARM LIFE," "garden FRESH," and "harvest LOVE." Rustic vibe.
Custom embellishments for days! ✂️🌪️ These digital SVGs brought the windmill, fences, and sun rays straight into my layout!

✂ Custom Embellishments: I designed and cut SVGs from the The Good Life Digital Art Kit, including:

✔ Sun rays (well, dark storm rays to portray the stormy tornado sky)

✔ Clouds

✔ A rustic, broken fence (straight out of Dorothy’s backyard!)

✔ Windmill accents

💡 Pro Tip: When layering cardstock to create dimension, ink the edges for a soft, blended look—it makes all the difference!

🎭 A Personal Touch—Notice the title? Yep, “Wizard” is spelled a little differently. NOT a mistake—it’s exactly how my son used to say it! These tiny quirks are what make layouts extra special (and extra fun to look back on in the future!).

Crafting The Wizard of OZ scrapbook Layout Using CTMH "The Good Life"

1. Designing the Background: I used cardstock and ink to create a textured backdrop that evokes the movie’s iconic scenes.

Collage of stormy farm scene: house, tornado, animals, windmill on grid background with clouds and crops. Tornado and animals show motion.
My scrapbook layout created on Design Space

2. Incorporating Movie-Inspired Elements: Using The Good Life Digital Art Kit, I cut out sun rays, windmills, and other themed accents with my Cricut, placing them around the layout for a magical touch.

3. Personalizing with Stamping and Embellishments:

.

Adding a Personal Touch with Hand-Stamped Details

Inspired by the movie’s opening black-and-white sequence, I used darker shades from the collection to craft sun rays, adding depth and contrast to the layout. I also inked clouds to create a stormy effect and for a touch of whimsy, including a rainbow, ruby slippers, and an “Oz” title from Cricut’s Design Space.

Here’s a little personal twist: you might notice “Wizard” spelled differently in the title. That wasn’t a typo! It’s exactly how my son said it in his adorable way at the time. Adding this detail helps bring his personality onto the page, capturing a moment that we will always smile about. 4. Layering for Depth: Layers of cardstock and small details added a 3D feel to the layout, capturing the spirit of adventure and discovery in every photo
