The holiday season is in full swing, and in our house, it means two things: baking Christmas treats and crafting festive cards. This year, I decided to combine the two by designing handmade cards inspired by baking and our love for all things cozy and sweet.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know my little man and I have a holiday tradition of baking goodies for friends and neighbors. It’s a whirlwind of flour, chocolate, and creativity—and let me tell you, not an inch of counter space is left untouched! We even lay cutting boards over the sink to make room for trays of cookies and treats.
This year, I added a creative twist to our holiday treat-giving: these Baking Spirits Bright cards. They’re perfect for pairing with a batch of cookies and feature adorable elements like cookie trays, spatulas, and gingerbread characters—plus a nod to our favorite movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Bringing It All Together: Crafting Handmade Holiday Cards and Scrapbooking Inspiration: Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1: Creating the Card Base
Start with Stampin’ Up! Basic White Thick Cardstock (8-1/2” x 11”) to create sturdy card bases. Cut each sheet in half to make two 4.25” x 5.5” bases. Score each piece at 4.25” to ensure a crisp fold.
Step 2: Emboss the Background
Use the So Swirly 3D Embossing Folder to emboss the front panels of the card bases. This elegant swirl pattern gives the card's texture and a whimsical touch that mimics the look of frosting on cookies.
Step 3: Stamping and Coloring the Gingerbread Characters
The adorable gingerbread characters were created using the Sweetest Star Stamp & Punch Bundle. I stamped them onto White Willow Cardstock with CTMH Intense Black Ink, then colored them using Stampin’ Blends Combo Packs in shades like Real Red, Pool Party, and Smoky Slate.
Pro Tip: Customize your gingerbread characters with unique colors and designs to make them look like real cookies or your favorite characters!
Step 4: Adding Digital Embellishments
Since I’m a newer crafter, I turned to digital elements to bring this design to life. Using the CTMH Freshly Baked Digital Art Kit, I cut the cookie trays and oven mitts, then colored them with Stampin’ Blends. The spatulas, candy canes, and “Baking Spirits Bright” sentiment were created in Cricut Design Space.
Step 5: Assembling the Cards
Layer your embossed background onto the card base, then start arranging the gingerbread characters, cookie trays, and other embellishments. Once you’re happy with the layout, adhere everything in place.
To complete the look, I added festive details like holly leaves cut from Stampin' Up! Poinsettia Petals Dies cut out of Basic Black & Garden Green Cardstock and pops of color with REAL RED & WHITE ADHESIVE-BACKED PEPPERMINTS.
Pro Tip: Pair these cards with a small batch of homemade treats to create a heartfelt gift! You can personalize the colors and designs to match the recipient’s favorite holiday goodies.
Personal Touch: A Family Tradition
Our holiday crafting and baking aren’t just about making treats or cards—they’re about making memories. The smell of cookies in the oven, the sound of Christmas music, and the joy of creating something special together make this tradition so meaningful.
