Some memories are so precious, so full of love, they donāt just live in your heart ā they deserve to live in a scrapbook too.
This is one of those memories.
It wasnāt about a grand gift, an extravagant gesture, or an expensive bouquet.
It was about a single flower, picked by tiny hands, just for me.
And today, Iām turning that moment into a Motherās Day scrapbook layout that keeps it blooming forever. šāØ
šæ Crafting with Love: The Materials Behind the Memory
Before there were tutorials, step-by-step photos, or blog posts, there was just me ā a mom, some paper, and one unforgettable Motherās Day moment. This page was created during my Close To My Heart days, just before they announced their closure, when I was still figuring out what kind of scrapbooker I wanted to be.
If youāve stumbled onto this blog from one of my newer projects (you know, the ones bursting with process shots, measurements, and pixie-powered instructions), just know: this layout is from my ānewbie era.ā The one where heart led the way and instinct did the designing. And honestly? Thatās what makes it so special. š

Paper & Cardstock
12Ć12 White Daisy cardstock ā the foundation of it all.
Sweet Memories patterned paper and coordinating cardstock in Periwinkle, Mulberry, Sage, and Mink ā that soft, nostalgic palette that just feels like springtime hugs.
Inks & Coloring Tools
Intense Black Ink Pad ā perfect for edging strips and adding definition.
Tri-Blend Markers ā blended to mimic the soft hues of the collection.
Stamps & Digital Art
āSay It With Flowersā Stamp Set ā delicate blooms that capture the mood.
Sweet Memories Digital Art Kit ā for my layered circles, butterflies, and that early Cricut magic.
Tools & Finishing Details
CricutĀ® Design SpaceĀ® ā for custom-cut titles and print-and-cut accents.
Foam tape ā for dimension, because flat layouts are for amateurs. š
Journaling pen ā for that stitched-with-love look and handwritten journaling.
š The Story That Inspired This Motherās Day Scrapbook Layout
Motherās Day 2013 ā my little man was in kindergarten, proudly singing songs and handing me crayon-colored cards. Those adorable worksheets said things like:
š āMy Momās Favorite Food is: Coffee.ā
š āMy Momās Favorite Thing to Do: Take a nap.ā
(He wasnāt wrong. š)
As we walked outside after the celebration, he spotted a tiny flower by the fence, plucked it, and handed it to me with a simple, āThis is for you, Mommy.ā
My heart melted faster than embossing powder under a heat gun. I tucked that flower behind my ear, wore it proudly all day, and that little gesture became the photo ā the image thatās now used across my site and social media. šø
Thatās why this layout means everything. Itās not just a project. Itās the beginning of This Chick Loves Paper ā a reminder that the smallest acts of love can grow into something beautiful.
Ā š Bringing the Memory to Life: Step-By-Step Layout Breakdown
1ļøā£ Setting the Stage: Where the Magic Begins!
To bring this page to life, I started with a 12Ć12 piece of White Daisy cardstock ā clean, classic, and ready to hold the memory that started it all.
From there, I added six vertical strips, each about one inch wide and roughly eight inches long. Three came from the Sweet Memories patterned papers, and the other two came from Sage and Mulberry cardstock. Each strip got a little attitude adjustment ā I duck-tailed the ends (because straight edges are for rule-followers) and ran them lightly across my Intense Black ink pad. That touch of ink gives the edges a subtle shadow, making every pastel hue pop just enough to whisper, "Look at me, Iām fabulous".
2ļøā£ Frame That Face, Mama!
Next came the heart of the layout ā those three vertical 3Ć4 photos that capture the moment in all its ātiny-hands, big-loveā glory. Each one sits on a White Daisy mat (2¾ Ć 3¾) layered over a Periwinkle cardstock mat (3Ć4).
I inked the Periwinkle edges too, because consistency is queen and I love how that soft hint of color frames the smiles without stealing the show. These photos are what the page is all about, and they deserve every ounce of attention.
3ļøā£ Round We Go ā The Trellis Effect in Full Bloom.
Then came the movement ā those pretty little double-matted circles I cut using the Digital Art Kit. Two are in Mulberry, one in Sage, and together they create a visual triangle that pulls your eyes gently across the page. Itās soft, balanced, and just a little whimsical ā exactly like the memory it celebrates. I outlined each circle with hand-drawn stitching, the kind that isnāt perfectly even (and thatās the point). Every stitch adds personality, and the look reminds me of the grapevine trellis back home ā delicate, dreamy, and completely alive.
4ļøā£ Talk About a Title Glow-Up!
At the top of the page, youāll spot one of my first Cricut print-and-cut titles from back when I was still a Design Space rookie. It might be simple, but the font and phrase were meant for this layout. I popped it up on foam tape inside the top circle to give it a little spotlight.
Down by the second circle, I tucked in the āSweet Memoriesā sticker from the coordinating sheet ā because letās be honest, this page is the definition of a sweet memory.
5ļøā£ Petals, Wings & Pixie Things.
You know I canāt resist a good floral moment. I used the āSay It With Flowersā stamp set and colored each bloom with Tri-Blend markers, matching the Mulberry, Periwinkle, Sage, and Mist hues in the paper collection. These blossoms flow and climb around the circles like vines on that trellis I mentioned earlier ā wrapping the page in a soft, blooming hug. And since no layout is complete without movement, I added a few butterflies from the digital art kit ā complete with motion lines because, really, who says paper canāt fly? š¦
6ļøā£ Write It, Ink It, Feel It ā The Heart of the Page.
To finish, I grabbed a few Close To My Heart journaling labels and wrote my story by hand using the same pen I used for stitching. The journaling is short, sweet, and straight from the heart ā just a few words about that single flower that became a memory, a photo, and eventually, my brand! Thereās something beautiful about handwriting your story ā itās perfectly imperfect, raw, and real. This page might have been from my ānewbieā days, but itās proof that love and paper can create something timeless. š
š¼ Why This Layout Means So Much
This layout isnāt about trends or techniques ā itās about heart. Every piece of cardstock, every inked edge, every imperfect stitch tells the story of where my creative journey began. This page serves as a reminder that love doesnāt have to be fancy to be forever.
Whether youāre a beginner or a lifelong paper crafter, let this be your sign: start where you are, use what you have, and tell the stories your heart refuses to forget. Because sometimes, itās not the big moments that define us ā itās the tiny flowers. šø
