Updated: 5 days ago

A scrapbook layout as beautiful as the memories it holds! šŸ’• Layered florals, soft pastels, and heartfelt journaling come together to create the perfect Mother’s Day tribute. 🌸

Some memories are so precious, so full of love, they don’t just live in your heart — they deserve to live in a scrapbook too.

This is one of those memories.

It wasn’t about a grand gift, an extravagant gesture, or an expensive bouquet.

It was about a single flower, picked by tiny hands, just for me.

And today, I’m turning that moment into a Mother’s Day scrapbook layout that keeps it blooming forever. šŸ’āœØ

🌿 Crafting with Love: The Materials Behind the Memory

Before there were tutorials, step-by-step photos, or blog posts, there was just me — a mom, some paper, and one unforgettable Mother’s Day moment. This page was created during my Close To My Heart days, just before they announced their closure, when I was still figuring out what kind of scrapbooker I wanted to be.

If you’ve stumbled onto this blog from one of my newer projects (you know, the ones bursting with process shots, measurements, and pixie-powered instructions), just know: this layout is from my ā€œnewbie era.ā€ The one where heart led the way and instinct did the designing. And honestly? That’s what makes it so special. šŸ’•

Scrapbooking supplies with vintage patterns and nature-themed designs, featuring text: "Congratulations," "Just a Note," and more.
The Sweet Memories Paper Pack is filled with vintage-inspired florals, soft pastels, and elegant patterns—perfect for capturing life’s most cherished moments. šŸ’•

Paper & Cardstock

  • 12Ɨ12 White Daisy cardstock → the foundation of it all.

  • Sweet Memories patterned paper and coordinating cardstock in Periwinkle, Mulberry, Sage, and Mink → that soft, nostalgic palette that just feels like springtime hugs.

Inks & Coloring Tools

  • Intense Black Ink Pad → perfect for edging strips and adding definition.

  • Tri-Blend Markers → blended to mimic the soft hues of the collection.

Floral outlines with leaves and stems on a white background. Text: "Sending you love," "grateful for you, friend," "thinking of you."
Say It With Flowers — because sometimes a stamped bloom says more than words.

Stamps & Digital Art

  • ā€˜Say It With Flowers’ Stamp Set → delicate blooms that capture the mood.

  • Sweet Memories Digital Art Kit → for my layered circles, butterflies, and that early Cricut magic.

Tools & Finishing Details

  • CricutĀ® Design SpaceĀ® → for custom-cut titles and print-and-cut accents.

  • Foam tape → for dimension, because flat layouts are for amateurs. šŸ˜‰

  • Journaling pen → for that stitched-with-love look and handwritten journaling.

šŸ’– The Story That Inspired This Mother’s Day Scrapbook Layout

My Little Man, Me & My Purple Flower!
šŸ’• Me, My Little Man, & One Special Flower! – A single flower, picked with love, turned this Mother’s Day into an unforgettable moment—and now, a scrapbooked treasure.

Mother’s Day 2013 — my little man was in kindergarten, proudly singing songs and handing me crayon-colored cards. Those adorable worksheets said things like:

šŸ“ ā€œMy Mom’s Favorite Food is: Coffee.ā€

šŸ“ ā€œMy Mom’s Favorite Thing to Do: Take a nap.ā€

(He wasn’t wrong. šŸ˜‚)

As we walked outside after the celebration, he spotted a tiny flower by the fence, plucked it, and handed it to me with a simple, ā€œThis is for you, Mommy.ā€

My heart melted faster than embossing powder under a heat gun. I tucked that flower behind my ear, wore it proudly all day, and that little gesture became the photo — the image that’s now used across my site and social media. 🌸

That’s why this layout means everything. It’s not just a project. It’s the beginning of This Chick Loves Paper — a reminder that the smallest acts of love can grow into something beautiful.

Ā šŸ“Œ Bringing the Memory to Life: Step-By-Step Layout Breakdown

1ļøāƒ£ Setting the Stage: Where the Magic Begins!

To bring this page to life, I started with a 12Ɨ12 piece of White Daisy cardstock — clean, classic, and ready to hold the memory that started it all.

From there, I added six vertical strips, each about one inch wide and roughly eight inches long. Three came from the Sweet Memories patterned papers, and the other two came from Sage and Mulberry cardstock. Each strip got a little attitude adjustment — I duck-tailed the ends (because straight edges are for rule-followers) and ran them lightly across my Intense Black ink pad. That touch of ink gives the edges a subtle shadow, making every pastel hue pop just enough to whisper, "Look at me, I’m fabulous".

Three photos, one proud mama, and a whole lotta heart!

2ļøāƒ£ Frame That Face, Mama!

Next came the heart of the layout — those three vertical 3Ɨ4 photos that capture the moment in all its ā€œtiny-hands, big-loveā€ glory. Each one sits on a White Daisy mat (2¾ Ɨ 3¾) layered over a Periwinkle cardstock mat (3Ɨ4).

I inked the Periwinkle edges too, because consistency is queen and I love how that soft hint of color frames the smiles without stealing the show. These photos are what the page is all about, and they deserve every ounce of attention.

3ļøāƒ£ Round We Go — The Trellis Effect in Full Bloom.

Then came the movement — those pretty little double-matted circles I cut using the Digital Art Kit. Two are in Mulberry, one in Sage, and together they create a visual triangle that pulls your eyes gently across the page. It’s soft, balanced, and just a little whimsical — exactly like the memory it celebrates. I outlined each circle with hand-drawn stitching, the kind that isn’t perfectly even (and that’s the point). Every stitch adds personality, and the look reminds me of the grapevine trellis back home — delicate, dreamy, and completely alive.

Florals, butterflies, and a sprinkle of fairy dust — basically my love language.

4ļøāƒ£ Talk About a Title Glow-Up!

At the top of the page, you’ll spot one of my first Cricut print-and-cut titles from back when I was still a Design Space rookie. It might be simple, but the font and phrase were meant for this layout. I popped it up on foam tape inside the top circle to give it a little spotlight.

Down by the second circle, I tucked in the ā€œSweet Memoriesā€ sticker from the coordinating sheet — because let’s be honest, this page is the definition of a sweet memory.

Soft pastels and vintage vibes — basically Mother’s Day in paper form.

5ļøāƒ£ Petals, Wings & Pixie Things.

You know I can’t resist a good floral moment. I used the ā€˜Say It With Flowers’ stamp set and colored each bloom with Tri-Blend markers, matching the Mulberry, Periwinkle, Sage, and Mist hues in the paper collection. These blossoms flow and climb around the circles like vines on that trellis I mentioned earlier — wrapping the page in a soft, blooming hug. And since no layout is complete without movement, I added a few butterflies from the digital art kit — complete with motion lines because, really, who says paper can’t fly? šŸ¦‹

Handwritten journaling: because fonts can’t cry happy tears as I do.

6ļøāƒ£ Write It, Ink It, Feel It — The Heart of the Page.

To finish, I grabbed a few Close To My Heart journaling labels and wrote my story by hand using the same pen I used for stitching. The journaling is short, sweet, and straight from the heart — just a few words about that single flower that became a memory, a photo, and eventually, my brand! There’s something beautiful about handwriting your story — it’s perfectly imperfect, raw, and real. This page might have been from my ā€œnewbieā€ days, but it’s proof that love and paper can create something timeless. šŸ’•
