Creating The Layout:
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to assembling the layout. Feel free to follow these instructions closely or use them as a springboard for your own creative interpretations. Whether you stick to the guide or add your personal touch, the process is sure to yield a super cute layout!
Prepare the Border:
1. Cut Out The Center:
Start with a 12x12 piece of black cardstock and cut out an 11x11 center. Set aside the removed center for later use as embellishments and for the secondary mat of a double-matted photo.
Prepare the Base:
2. Trim the Base: Cut a piece of White Daisy cardstock to 11 1/2” x 11 1/2”. This will serve as your base page, which you will adhere to your previously prepared black border.
Color and Texture:
3. Blend Color: Place a circular scrap as a mask in the center of your base page. Blend Granny Apple Green ink around it to define the wreath area, keeping the center pristine. Blend far enough so that when your star is in place you see bits of the green under it.
4. Create a Splatter Effect: Position a 12x12 scrap piece of cardstock diagonally over your base page, exposing the corners. Use a Sage Shimmer brush to splatter these corners, enhancing the layout with a magical sparkle effect. Allow to dry completely before proceeding.
Stamp, Punch & Die Cut:
5. Prepare Images: Using your black ink, stamp images from the Sweetest Star and the 3 icing bags from the Freshly Baked stamp set onto White Daisy cardstock. Allow the ink to dry completely.
6. Color and Cut: Color the stamped images to resemble Nightmare Before Christmas characters. Color your icing bags with the same colors you used as stars. Die-cut the images once colored.
7. Punch Stars: Use a punch to create additional stars from the Mix In paper pack and cardstock. This was my first time using a punch!! I loved it!!
Assembly:
Before any glue touches our paper, we carefully position our embellishments to ensure everything fits perfectly and looks just right. This step is crucial—it’s our chance to tweak and adjust the layout without commitment, allowing us to visualize the final arrangement before making it permanent. So, let’s take our time to place each piece thoughtfully, ensuring our project will turn out exactly as envisioned.
8. Position the Photo: In the bottom right-hand corner of the layout, place down down two cookie racks, you want these over lapping and staggered so that one is higher than the other. Place down your double-matted photo in the center of them.
9. Arrange the Stars: Strategically place the punched stars made of patterned paper and cardstock around the circular green inked area on your base to form a wreath. Ensure that the stars overlap half way into the white center for visual interest.
10. Add Embellishments: Position the stamped colored star images around the wreath. Place the colored icing bags around your photo with one colored character star.
11. Set the Title and Tools: Place the “One Cute Cookie” title inside the wreath, with oven mitts to the right of the title and rolling pins below for a thematic touch.
****If the corner area is not big enough for your journaling, consider leaving off the rolling pins and using this area for journaling. Writing on strips of paper and then staggering them in this area would be very appealing!
Final Touches:
12. Add Dimension: Use foam tape behind the title and Nightmare Before Christmas star embellishment’s will help to create depth and dimension, making your layout and the characters pop.
13. Secure Elements: Once everything is in position, begin by gluing all flush itmes to the page. After ensuring everything is firmly adhered and positioned as planned, peel off your foam tape from the character stars and title. Adhere to the page.
Closing Thoughts:
This layout not only celebrates the spooky season but also highlights the versatility of our holiday-themed stamp sets. Who knew that the Sweetest Star Stamp Set would make such a cute Nightmare Before Christmas layout!
