Cowabunga, Crafty Friends!
This TMNT-Inspired Pool Party Scrapbook Layout Brings the Splash, Sass, and Birthday Bash!
Pizza? Check. Pool time? Check. A stare-down in the hot tub that went down in birthday history? DOUBLE CHECK.
This 12x12 double-page scrapbook layout was inspired by my little man’s 10th birthday party—and our favorite sewer-dwelling superheroes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Using a mix of Stampin’ Up! cardstock, Turtle-y Cute DSP, and a whole lotta turtle power, this layout packs a punch with bold color, SVG embellishments, and flip flap journaling that brings the storytelling full circle.
Let’s break it down—step by shell-tastic step.
Supplies You’ll Need For This 12x12 Double-Page Birthday Pool Party Scrapbook Layout

• Turtle-y Cute 12x12 DSP (Stripes & patterns)

How This Birthday Layout Came Together — Turtle Style! 🥳
Let’s go from top to bottom and layer it all up like a birthday lasagna (Michelangelo would approve).
1️⃣ Base & Strips
• Start with two 12x12 White Willow cardstock bases.
• Add your top border strips in this order:
- Patterned Paper: 12” x 1-3/4”
- Patterned Paper: 12” x 1/4”
- Night of Navy: 12” x 1/4”
• Mid-section strips include:
- Striped Patterned Paper: 12” x 6”
- Night of Navy: 12” x 1/4”
• Bottom borders:
- Patterned Paper: 12” x 1”

2️⃣ Photo Mat Sizes & Layers 📸
Every photo is triple matted for maxed-out impact.
Here’s the size breakdown:
• (3) photos matted to 4.5” x 6”
• (2) square photos matted to 4.5” x 4.5”
Each stack goes: Night of Navy > Pool Party or Granny Apple Green (alternated) > White Willow > Photo.
3️⃣ Add the Turtle Power!
• Cut out your TMNT-inspired SVGs in Design Space and size them to match your layout.
• Foam tape adds dimension to key pieces like the blue turtle, the balloons, and the beach ball.
• Position embellishments to form a visual triangle—balancing the layout and leading the eye across both pages.
4️⃣ The Title? Totally Tubular.
• Cut from Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade, and Daffodil Delight cardstock
• Layered for dimension and positioned at the bottom of the layout to ground the scene
• It POPS—and ties together the birthday theme and turtle colors beautifully!
5️⃣ Journaling — TMNT-Approved 🐢
I didn’t get tons of pool pics (I was busy being party planner, chef, and lifeguard!)—but the hot tub stare-off is a memory that HAD to be documented.
Typed journaling on Avery labels creates a staggered, comic-book style storytelling strip that fits the TMNT vibe.
And the hidden journaling under the 4x4 Flip Flaps? Game-changer!

Pro Tips from the Sewer 💡
Pro Tip 1:
Use bold colors like Navy and Granny Apple Green as anchors. They pull your eye across the layout and help the character embellishments feel cohesive.
Pro Tip 2:
Don’t have the perfect embellishments? That’s what Design Space is for! Cut characters, balloons, and icons using SVGs to match your layout theme—no themed die set needed.
Pro Tip 3:
Use foam tape to create levels—especially on pieces that “interact” like the turtle and the beach ball. It gives the layout movement and storytelling magic!
Pro Tip 4:
Use black cardstock circles as placeholder magic!
They’re perfect for planning embellishment placement, sizing photo mats, and testing layout balance—before you commit with adhesive. It’s like a crafty crystal ball for your page design!!
Pro Tip 5:
Don’t need a full double-page spread? No prob!
Just rock Page One solo as a 12x12 single-page scrapbook layout with two or three photos—it still delivers maximum birthday punch with half the prep!
