šŸ¦āœØāœ‚ļø Oscar’s Big Personality: A 12x12 Spring Scrapbook Layout for My Cheeky, Green Cheek Conure! šŸ¦āœØāœ‚ļø

Scrapbook page with photos of Green Cheek conures in cages. Text reads "Green Cheeks, Full Heart, Empty Wallet!" Floral decorations and patterns.
From bold embellishments to cheeky journaling strips, this scrapbook page celebrates Oscar in every detail.

This layout cracks me up every time I look at it! Oscar may be small, but he’s got a BIG personality—and a vocabulary to match! From ā€œHi Mom!ā€ to ā€œOscar is dancing!ā€ to the sweetest ā€œI love you,ā€ this feathered fluffball keeps us laughing, loving, and constantly reaching for the camera.

Naturally, I had to create a layout just as bold, bright, and cheeky as he is. With a sketch I designed, a rainbow of die cuts, and a pinch of paper magic, this 12x12 Spring scrapbook layout came to life with layers, color, and character. Let’s dive in!

What I Used to Bring the Spring (and the Sass!) to This 12x12 Conure Scrapbook Layout

Here’s everything I used to bring Oscar’s story—and this 12x12 spring conure scrapbook layout to life—broken down by type so you can build your own layout from any stash!

Cardstock

• Basic Black – Circles for the birdhouse entry & daisy centers

• Garden Green – Leaves and sprigs for the floral clusters

• White Willow – Layout base, photo mats, and birdhouse frame

• Calypso Coral – Butterflies from the Honey Bunny Digital Art Kit

Designer Series Paper

• Floral Delight 12x12 DSP – Used for patterned strips A & E

• Serene Love 12x12 DSP – Used for patterned strips B & F, photo mats, florals, birdhouse panels, sprigs, and daisy centers

Stamps & Thin Cuts

• Country Birdhouse Bundle (Stampin’ Up!)

• Impressions Abloom Bundle (Stampin’ Up!)

• Sweet Memories Thin Cuts (Close to My Heart)

• CTMH Honey Bunny Digital Art Kit – butterflies

Extras & Tools

• Avery Clear Labels – Used to create journaling strips over patterned paper

• Cricut Design SpaceĀ® – For designing and cutting the layered title

• Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine – For all die cutting

• Adhesive & Foam Tape – To assemble and pop-up embellishments

• Glue – For securing fine details like sprigs and butterfly wings

Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix and match! This layout includes florals, birds, honeycomb, digital art, and multiple paper collections—all pulled together by a consistent color story and a common theme. Coordination doesn’t have to mean ā€œmatchy-matchyā€ā€¦ it just has to feel intentional.

Piece by Piece: Building Your Layout from the Birdhouse Up āœ‚ļøšŸ”šŸŒø

Stamp set with birdhouse, flower, and text designs lies on wood. Next to it, a pecan pie ink pad and birdhouse die-cuts are displayed.
Build your own birdhouse embellishment with the Country Birdhouse Bundle—perfect for pet-themed scrapbook pages!

I started with the embellishments for this layout—because that birdhouse? A whole moment.

Birdhouse:

• I built the birdhouse frame and scalloped roof from White Willow cardstock.

• The roof and base panel were cut from a piece of patterned paper in the Floral Delight DSP.

• The iron stand, entry, and tiny roof accent piece were die cut from Basic Black cardstock.

Florals:

• I cut all the flowers from a piece of yellow patterned paper from the Floral Delight DSP using the Impressions Abloom dies.

• Leaves were die cut from Garden Green cardstock using both the Impressions Abloom and Sweet Memories Thin Cuts.

Photo Mats:

• I used the same yellow DSP (from the florals) as the base layer for my photo mats, then added a White Willow layer to frame them.

Start with the sketch! This 12x12 base is ready to bring your bird-themed scrapbook layout to life.

Layout Base:

• On a 12x12 piece of White Willow cardstock, I laid down my patterned strips (A, B, E & F).

• I placed the birdhouse first to make sure everything else flowed around it.

• I tucked the 4x6 photo mat (C) into position underneath the birdhouse.

• Next, I added both photo mats D.

Final Flourishes That Bring the WOW āœ‚ļøšŸ’„šŸŒø

Once I placed the final photo mats, it was time to build my floral clusters.

Scrapbook page with a parrot photo, yellow flowers, leaves, and a birdhouse. Text reads: "EMPTY WALLET." Patterned green floral background.
Layered daisies, textured leaves, and a custom birdhouse bring this layout to life, just like Oscar!

🌼 To start, I positioned the florals around the birdhouse. Then, I placed two additional floral clusters—one at the top center of the page and one at the bottom right—creating my visual triangle.

🌼 I added black circles to the centers of the daisies, pulling that Basic Black color from the birdhouse entry into the rest of the layout for a bold, cohesive effect.

🌼 For the daisies surrounding the birdhouse, I wanted a more subtle look. I cut the centers from the same warm brown DSP I had used on the roof of the birdhouse.

🌼 Finally, I added my leaves and sprigs to finish off the clusters.

🌼 And just like that—our floral clusters are done and this 12x12 spring conure scrapbook layout is blooming with color, balance, and birdhouse charm! 🐦✨

āœļø The Journaling: Short, Sweet & Straight From Oscar’s Beak

Scrapbook page with photos of a green parrot in a cage. Yellow flowers and butterflies decorate the page. Text reads: "I love you!"
Tiny strips, BIG personality! These clear-label journaling pieces bring Oscar’s voice—and sass—straight to the page.

For this one, I created journaling strips using Avery clear labels over the same yellow DSP from the florals and the photo mats. I staggered them across the bottom of the layout, adding a subtle pop of personality and color.

Here’s what they say:

ā€œThis cheeky little fella is so darn smart!

Turn on the light—he says ā€˜Hi Mom!’

Turn off the light? ā€˜Time to go night-night, Oscar!’

When he’s getting his groove on, ā€˜Oscar is dancing!’

But my favorite? ā€˜I love you.ā€™ā€ We love you too, Oscar!

Short and sweet! As for the date, I am going to create an address sign for the birdhouse! Clever, yes?

I love the way this layout literally talks back—and honestly, so does Oscar!

The Title That Ties It All Together āœ‚ļøšŸŽØšŸ¦

Scrapbook page with text "Green Cheeks, Full Heart, Empty Wallet!" on a wooden backdrop. Features sunflowers, butterflies, and a parrot photo.
Custom Cricut title = BIG personality! This layout says it loud and proud.

This one had to be extra special.

I designed the title in Cricut Design Space and layered it in Garden Green, Daffodil Delight, and Calypso Coral—bringing in that soft reddish hue Oscar has on his chest. It instantly tied the layout together and gave it one final punch of personality.

At that point, the title was the only hint of Calypso Coral on the page. To bring that color into other areas of the layout, I added butterflies from the Honey Bunny Digital Art Kit to the remaining two floral clusters. This gave the layout just the right flutter of color and movement.
