This layout cracks me up every time I look at it! Oscar may be small, but heās got a BIG personalityāand a vocabulary to match! From āHi Mom!ā to āOscar is dancing!ā to the sweetest āI love you,ā this feathered fluffball keeps us laughing, loving, and constantly reaching for the camera.
Naturally, I had to create a layout just as bold, bright, and cheeky as he is. With a sketch I designed, a rainbow of die cuts, and a pinch of paper magic, this 12x12 Spring scrapbook layout came to life with layers, color, and character. Letās dive in!
What I Used to Bring the Spring (and the Sass!) to This 12x12 Conure Scrapbook Layout

Piece by Piece: Building Your Layout from the Birdhouse Up āļøš”šø
I started with the embellishments for this layoutābecause that birdhouse? A whole moment.
Birdhouse:
⢠I built the birdhouse frame and scalloped roof from White Willow cardstock.
⢠The roof and base panel were cut from a piece of patterned paper in the Floral Delight DSP.
⢠The iron stand, entry, and tiny roof accent piece were die cut from Basic Black cardstock.
Florals:
⢠I cut all the flowers from a piece of yellow patterned paper from the Floral Delight DSP using the Impressions Abloom dies.
⢠Leaves were die cut from Garden Green cardstock using both the Impressions Abloom and Sweet Memories Thin Cuts.
Photo Mats:
⢠I used the same yellow DSP (from the florals) as the base layer for my photo mats, then added a White Willow layer to frame them.
Layout Base:
⢠On a 12x12 piece of White Willow cardstock, I laid down my patterned strips (A, B, E & F).
⢠I placed the birdhouse first to make sure everything else flowed around it.
⢠I tucked the 4x6 photo mat (C) into position underneath the birdhouse.
⢠Next, I added both photo mats D.
Final Flourishes That Bring the WOW āļøš„šø
Once I placed the final photo mats, it was time to build my floral clusters.
š¼ To start, I positioned the florals around the birdhouse. Then, I placed two additional floral clustersāone at the top center of the page and one at the bottom rightācreating my visual triangle.
š¼ I added black circles to the centers of the daisies, pulling that Basic Black color from the birdhouse entry into the rest of the layout for a bold, cohesive effect.
š¼ For the daisies surrounding the birdhouse, I wanted a more subtle look. I cut the centers from the same warm brown DSP I had used on the roof of the birdhouse.
š¼ Finally, I added my leaves and sprigs to finish off the clusters.
š¼ And just like thatāour floral clusters are done and this 12x12 spring conure scrapbook layout is blooming with color, balance, and birdhouse charm! š¦āØ
āļø The Journaling: Short, Sweet & Straight From Oscarās Beak
For this one, I created journaling strips using Avery clear labels over the same yellow DSP from the florals and the photo mats. I staggered them across the bottom of the layout, adding a subtle pop of personality and color.
Hereās what they say:
āThis cheeky little fella is so darn smart!
Turn on the lightāhe says āHi Mom!ā
Turn off the light? āTime to go night-night, Oscar!ā
When heās getting his groove on, āOscar is dancing!ā
But my favorite? āI love you.āā We love you too, Oscar!
Short and sweet! As for the date, I am going to create an address sign for the birdhouse! Clever, yes?
I love the way this layout literally talks backāand honestly, so does Oscar!
The Title That Ties It All Together āļøšØš¦
This one had to be extra special.
I designed the title in Cricut Design Space and layered it in Garden Green, Daffodil Delight, and Calypso Coralābringing in that soft reddish hue Oscar has on his chest. It instantly tied the layout together and gave it one final punch of personality.
At that point, the title was the only hint of Calypso Coral on the page. To bring that color into other areas of the layout, I added butterflies from the Honey Bunny Digital Art Kit to the remaining two floral clusters. This gave the layout just the right flutter of color and movement.
