Today, I’ll show you how to create handmade adorable gift card holders featuring Minnie Mouse and two different Jack Skellington stockings inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas. These holders are primarily made of cardstock and dies, making them a great project for crafters of all levels. Let’s dive in!

Materials Used:

• Stocking Die Set

• Striped paper from the Halloween Spells DSP

• Stampin' Up! Poinsettias Petals Stamp & Thin Cuts

• CTMH Intense Black Stamp pad

• White Gel Pen

• Black Gel Pen

• CTMH Poinsettias Embossing Folder or any embossing folder you have on hand

• Foam tape, adhesive, glue, paper trimmer, and other everyday tools

Getting Started:

I began by designing the cards in Design Space®️. Each card has its unique design, but the die cuts are interchangeable, making it easy to mix and match elements across different cards and create new themes! Designing in Design Space®️ allows me to get clear visual and precise measurements before cutting any paper. This approach ensures perfect cuts, whether I’m using my Cricut®️ or cutting by hand, which is crucial for achieving a polished final product.

Prep Work For The Disney Inspired Christmas Card Holders:

The general construction of these Disney Pull Top Christmas Gift Card Holders is essentially the same. What sets each card apart are the embellishments, patterned paper, and color changes. The beauty of these designs is that they use many of the same tools and materials—like the same die cuts and poinsettias—but in different colors and arrangements. It’s amazing how you can use the same elements to create cards that look completely different, offering endless possibilities for customization and creativity!

1. Cutting the Stockings and Cuffs:

Die Cut Stockings & Cuffs / Toppers
Die Cut Stockings & Cuffs / Toppers

• Cut two stockings for each card holder, one for the front and one for the back. Use patterned paper for the front and solid cardstock for the back or both pieces in cardstock. You can vary the colors for added interest and change themes.

• Cut three cuffs: one for the front, one for the middle, and another one for the back. You can use the same colors or make them all different. I prefer to make the middle the same color as the color I am using for the back. The front and the back do not have to be the same color.

• Cut a 2 1/4” x 5 1/2” strip in the same color as the middle and back cuff. This strip will slide up and down on your card and hold your gift card.

• Cut two 2 1/5” x 1” strips in the same color as the cardstock used for the 21/4' by51/2" strip. These will be attached to the strip that holds the gift card in place and will help the piece move in and out of your card.

2. Die Cutting with Stampin’ Up! Deckled Dies:

• Use the Deckled Circle Dies to create double-matted circles in sizes (2 3/4” x 2 3/4” & 2 1/2” x 2 1/2”). For the Cardholders were are creating today, we will need one set in Basic Black & White Daisy Cardstock for one stocking and Real Red and White Daisy Cardstock for the other. These will showcase the Jack embellishments in the center of the stockings.

• For the stockings’ toes and heels, use the 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” circles cut in .y, Real Red, and Basic Black Cardstock. Cut one of each color.

• Cut two additional Basic Black 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” circles for Minnie’s ears and one 2 3/4” x 2 3/4 from the Deckled Circle Dies.

• Cut dots for Minnie’s stocking using 3/4” x 3/4” circles die-cut from White Daisy Cardstock.

• Cut dots for Minnie’s bow using 1/2” x 1/2” White Daisy cardstock circles.

• Use the Poinsettias Petals Stamp & Thin Cuts to cut poinsettias in Black and Real Red Cardstock, as well as holly leaves and small sprigs in Garden Green and Real Red.

General Construction Of The Stocking & Pull Tab :

Now that we have done our prep work, let's construct the stocking! This is the general construction of the card and pull tab before adding any embellishments. Regardless of the design or embellishments you choose to add, these steps will guide you in creating the basic pull-top card holder. Once you have this structure in place, you can get creative with different papers, colors, and decorations to make each card unique.

1. Assembling the Stocking:

• Start by gluing the front of the stocking to the back, applying a thin line of glue as close to the two sides and bottom edges of the stocking as possible. Remember not to glue the two edges along the top of the stocking. This will serve as your pocket for the gift card. Set aside to dry.

2. Preparing the Cuff:

• Adhere two of the cuff pieces together (the front cuff to the middle cuff). Typically, the front cuff will be patterned paper or cardstock, while the middle cuff will be cardstock.

Position & adhere foam tape to the exposed areas of the topper

• Position your front cuff topper on the stocking where you want it to sit. Flip it over so that the front of your stocking and topper are face down. On the back, adhere foam tape to the exposed areas of the topper.

3. Creating the Pull Tab:

Glue the two small pieces together & Adhere these strips to the top of the 2 1/4” x 5 1/2” strip of cardstock

• Glue the two small 2 1/4” x 1” pieces of cardstock on top of each other.

• Adhere these strips to the top of the 2 1/4” x 5 1/2” strip of cardstock. This will be the back piece of the strip that slides in and out of your stocking. Set aside to dry.

• On the front of the 2 1/4” x 5 1/2” strip and, using removable adhesive, attach your gift card to the bottom of the strip front. The front of the strip will be the side that doesn’t have the two smaller strips we attached earlier.

• Remove the backing off of the remaining foam strips and carefully position your back cuff topper, adhering it to the front topper.

Adding The Embellishments:

Once you have the general assembly down, the rest is all about adding your unique touches and variations to make each stocking card holder truly one-of-a-kind. I’ll cover the detailed steps for the Jack and Minnie cards in the next part of this guide.

All of the cards are similar in construction with just a few changes in embellishments, color, and design. It’s amazing to think that by changing those few simple ingredients, you can create such versatility in your projects. They all look so creative, and people are often amazed when I tell them they are primarily made of dies and cardstock! Let’s dive in and see what the differences are and get into a bit more detail on how these cards came to life.

For The Striped Disney®️ Inspired Jack Skellington Card:

1. Stocking:

• Use a piece of striped paper from the Stampin’ Up! Halloween Spells DSP for the front of the stocking. The back stocking, cuff, and center strip holding the gift card are all in black cardstock.

2. Center Embellishment:

• Ink the edges of the larger Real Red Deckled Circle Die Cut with Real Red Stampin' Pad Ink using a sponge dauber. Adhere the medium white Deckled Circle Die to the front and position the SVG of Jack.

• Finish off the center embellishment with some clear berries from the Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler and Clear Adhesive-Backed Berries. Add foam strips to the back.

3. Cuff / Topper:

• Add the title to the left-hand side of the topper, leaving room on the right for a Real Red poinsettia, two Garden Green cardstock holly leaves, and a sprig. Using a sponge dauber, ink the edges of both the poinsettia and holly leaves in corresponding colors.

4. Toe and Heel Details:

• Create the toe and heel of the sock using one of the medium-sized circles cut from Black Cardstock. Adhere part of the circle to the front of the stocking for the toe and fussy cut the remainder. Repeat this process for the heel.

• Use a white gel pen to add hand-drawn stitching.

• To create a visual triangle, start with the poinsettia, then use a medium-size Real Red cardstock Deckled Circle Die for the heel and toe, following the same instructions as in the instructions above.

5. Assembly:

• Once everything is positioned, adhere the embellishments to the stocking.

For The Black & White Disney®️ Inspired Jack Skellington Card:

For this second Jack Skellington card, you’ll follow the same basic assembly steps as the first card, but with a few key differences in colors and details:

1. Stocking:

• For the front of the stocking, use black cardstock embossed with the CTMH Poinsettia Embossing Folder or something you have in your craft supplies that is similar. This adds a rich texture and intricate detail to the card, making it stand out.

2. Toe and Heel Details:

• The heel and toe for this card are created the same way we did in the previous card. However, for this card, we are using CTMH White Daisy cardstock for the color. Instead of using a white gel pen for stitching details, use black for a contrasting look. This black stitching creates a more subtle yet effective design element that ties the card together.

3. Cuff and Stitching:

• Since the cuff on this card is white, add black stitching to it as well. This not only adds detail but also helps in forming a visual triangle, guiding the viewer’s eye across the card.

• The poinsettias for this card are cut in black cardstock with holly leaves and sprig being in Real Red cardstock. To create a dynamic look, I inked up the edges and center of the holly leaves using Intense Black ink.

• Finish off the cuff with some clear berries from the Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler and Clear Adhesive-Backed Berries.

4. Additional Embellishments:

• To further enhance the visual triangle and create balance, add two more Real Red Cardstock holly leaves around the central embellishment. This small addition adds a pop of color and brings a cohesive look to the card.

5. Center Embellishment:

• Unlike the first card that used an SVG, this card’s center embellishment is hand-drawn. It adds a unique and personal touch to the design.

6. Assembly:

• Once all embellishments are in the desired place, adhere them to the stocking.

For The Disney®️ Inspired Minnie Mouse Card:

Minnie Mouse, like the others, follows the same general assembly with some color and design differences:

  1. Stocking:

• For the stocking, use solid Real Red Cardstock for the front and CTMH White Daisy Cardstock for the back. The inside pieces of the cardholder are also cut in CTMH White Daisy Cardstock.

• Glue 1-inch White Daisy cardstock die-cut circles on the front to mimic Minnie’s polka-dot dress.

• The center embellishment is the same size as the others but with a print-and-cut SVG file of Minnie’s face to create the double-matted embellishment. Unlike the rest of the cards, this is not popped up; it is glued directly to the card.

2. Heel and Toe:

• Create the toe and heel of the sock using one of the medium-sized circles cut from Black Cardstock. Adhere part of the circle to the front of the stocking for the toe and fussy cut the remainder. Repeat this process for the heel.

• To create the visual triangle, using Minnie’s face as the starting point, cut these in Black Cardstock and add white gel pen stitching to complete the look.

3. Cuff / Topper:

• On the cuff, adhere to two large black cardstock circles cut from the Stampin’ Up! Deckled Circle Dies to serve as Minnie’s ears.

• Cut a bow shape and create a polka-dot pattern by adding 1/2” White Daisy cardstock circles to it.

• Add the polka-dot bow using foam tape to give it dimension and help the card slide more easily over Minnie’s face.

• At the last minute, I used a black gel pen to add stitching to the visible parts of the cuff. It’s amazing how this one tiny detail made the card pop.

4. Adding Christmas Flair:

• To add a bit of Christmas flair, I include inked holly leaves made from Garden Green cardstock & tucked under Minnie’s face, similar to Jack’s stockings. Finish off the holly leaves with some clear berries from the Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler and Clear Adhesive-Backed Berries.

5. Assembly:

• Once all embellishments are complete, adhere them to the stocking.
