When your little man suits up as a goalie & you’re watching him play this position for the first time, you know it’s going to be a moment worth remembering—and scrapbooking! Watching him stack the pads, defend the net, and hold his ground like a pro was nothing short of exhilarating. This 12x12 layout captures all the pride, heart-pounding action, and memories from that incredible game.
Not only does this layout tell the story of his big goalie debut, but it also combines bold colors, custom hockey-themed details, and some fun design tricks to make it pop. Let’s dive into the story and how I brought it to life!
The Story Behind the Layout
Defense is usually his jam, but when the goalie was out, my little man stepped up to guard the net—and nailed it! Watching him in action was a mix of chaos and total pride. The puck was flying, sticks were clashing, and players were charging. Meanwhile, I was snapping photos, hoping he could see the puck better than I could!
Spoiler: He could. Save after save, he stacked the pads like a seasoned pro. After the game, a man came up to me and said, “Your son’s amazing. Some of these guys have been playing for 20 years and aren’t as good as he is!” Cue the proud mom tears.
Who knew my little guy could be such a beast on the ice? This layout captures that unforgettable game and all the emotions that came with it.

How I Created the Layout: Step-by-Step
1. Designing the Layout
I started in Cricut® Design Space, where I planned the layout and created custom hockey-themed embellishments, including a hockey net and player as print-and-cut SVGs. This step helped me visualize the design before cutting anything.
2. Building the Base
• The base of the layout features a bold Cherry Cobbler border and a clean center layer of White Willow cardstock.
• I added vertical banners in Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, and Honey Butter cardstock for a striking, hockey-inspired design element.
3. Adding Splatter Effects
• Using the CTMH Black Shimmer Brush, I added splatter across the layout to give it movement and a gritty, game-time feel.
• To control the splatter, I masked off areas I didn’t want to be splattered, letting the design stay clean and intentional.
4. Creating Embellishments
• Hearts: Using my Cricut®, I cut hearts to tie in with the “I Love This Game” title. Each heart was matted with combinations of Basic Black, Honey Butter, Cherry Cobbler, and White Willow cardstock to add depth.
• Ice Skates: The Sophisticated Sled Bundle dies created the perfect ice skates, with Brushed Silver DSP for the blades and Basic Black Two-Tone and Honey Butter cardstock for the boots.
• Hockey Net and Player: These were print-and-cut SVGs designed in Cricut® Design Space.
5. Incorporating the CTMH Stamp
The CTMH Hockey With Heart stamp added the perfect touch of personality. I stamped the design using CTMH Intense Black Ink and colored the heart with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker. I also used a black marker to make the puck pop.
6. Assembling the Layout
Once all the pieces were ready, I added the titles and started adhering everything to the page. Foam tape added dimension to the embellishments, while typed journaling ensured the story fit perfectly without overcrowding the design.
