Watching my little man take the ice as a goalie for the first time was one of those proud mom moments I’ll never forget! He stacked the pads, shut down shots, and held his ground like a seasoned pro—and, of course, I had to scrapbook it! This 12x12 layout isn’t just about the game; it’s about heart, grit, and the magic of capturing these once-in-a-lifetime memories.
From the bold colors to the custom hockey-themed embellishments, every detail brings the energy of the rink to the page. Whether you’re scrapping for a hockey star, a sports fan, or just love dynamic layouts, this design is sure to score big! 🏒✨
🏒 Game Time: The Story Behind This Layout
Defense is usually his jam, but when the goalie was out, my little man stepped up to guard the net—and nailed it! The puck was flying, sticks were clashing, and players were charging. Meanwhile, I was snapping photos, hoping he could see the puck better than I could!
🚨 Spoiler Alert: He could. Save after save, he shut down breakaways like a seasoned goalie. And after the game? A man came up to me and said, “Your son’s amazing. Some of these guys have been playing for 20 years and aren’t as good as he is!” 💥
Cue the proud mom tears. 🥹

✔CTMH Honey Butter or Stampin’ Up! DAFFODIL DELIGHT 12" X 12" TWO-TONE CARDSTOCK: Vertical banners and heart accents.
🎨 Inks & Markers:
• CTMH Intense Black Ink: For stamping. JET BLACK STĀZON PAD can be substituted.
• Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker: To color the CTMH Hockey With Heart stamped image.
• Black Marker: To color the puck on the CTMH stamp.
• CTMH Black Shimmer Brush: Splatter effect.
• Stampin’ Up! Sophisticated Sled Bundle: Ice skate die cuts with blades made from Basic Black Cardstock & Brushed Silver DSP.

🎨 Designing the Layout: Step-by-Step Breakdown
Planned in Cricut® Design Space, this layout was built for action. Here’s how it all came together:
1. Designing the Layout
I design most of my layouts in Cricut® Design Space for a full visual preview before cutting—but let’s be real, sometimes I don’t have the perfect embellishment on hand!
Since hockey stamps & dies are still missing from my stash (but trust me, I’m on the hunt! 😉), I turned to Cricut® Design Space to create custom hockey-themed embellishments that brought the action to life!
🏒 A hockey net & player—sized to fit my layout perfectly as print-and-cut SVGs.
🏒 A bold title & extra accents—because Cricut® lets me adjust everything to get the exact look I want!
💡 This step helped me visualize the layout before making a single cut—saving time, paper, and stress!
🏒 Step 1: Creating the Base Layers – Setting the Foundation for a Winning Layout!
🏆 Cherry Cobbler Border Frame – Bold, Clean, & High-Impact!
To frame this action-packed layout, I used Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler cardstock for a bold, eye-catching border. But instead of using a full sheet (which can add bulk and waste cardstock), I hollowed out the center by trimming a 1-inch border around the perimeter.
💡 Why? This technique keeps the layout sturdy while saving cardstock for future projects—because let’s be real, we can NEVER have enough paper!
🏆 White Willow Background – A Crisp, Clean Canvas!
For the perfect contrast & structure, I cut White Willow cardstock to 11 ½” x 11 ½” and layered it over the Cherry Cobbler frame. This slightly smaller size lets the bold red border peek through, creating a sharp, defined edge that keeps the design looking clean & polished!
🏒 Creating That Game-Day Splatter Effect – Bringing the Ice to Life
No hockey game is clean & neat—it’s fast, gritty, and full of action! To capture that energy, I grabbed my CTMH Black Shimmer Brush and splattered ink across the page for a high-impact, in-the-moment feel!
💡 This effect mimics the ice spray from quick stops, fast plays, and game-winning saves!
✨ Pro Tip: Mask off areas before splattering to keep things clean & intentional—because controlled chaos is what makes the best layouts! 😉
🏆 Vertical Banners – Adding Structure & Energy!
What’s a hockey layout without power plays and action? To add movement & depth, I cut vertical banners in:
✔ Cherry Cobbler (to tie into the bold frame)
✔ Basic Black (to anchor the design)
✔ Honey Butter (for a warm, dynamic contrast!)
📏 Each banner measures 1” x 1 ½”—a perfect balance of structure & flow that draws the eye straight to the focal point!
🏒 Game On! Time to Bring This Layout to Life!
Now that the base is set, it’s time for the power play! These bold embellishments capture the energy, movement, and excitement of game day—because this layout deserves nothing less than an all-star finish!
❤️ Layered Hearts – Because We LOVE This Game!
✔ Cherry Cobbler & White Willow hearts – Layered, slightly offset, and full of dimension!
✔ Smaller hearts in Yellow & Black – Double-matted for extra contrast and that team-color spirit!
💡 Pro Tip: Offsetting the layers slightly creates a shadow effect, making your hearts look extra dynamic and ready to jump off the page!
⛸ Ice Skates – From Sophisticated Sled to Hockey MVP!
I couldn’t resist adding die-cut ice skates using the Stampin’ Up! Sophisticated Sled Bundle—but with a hockey twist! Instead of traditional blades, I used Brushed Silver DSP for that textured, metallic skate look. The result? Perfectly themed skates that look like they’re ready to hit the ice!
Since Little Man's real skates are black, I used Basic Black for the skate and finished them off with Daffodil Delight laces!
🥅 Custom Hockey Net & Player SVGs – Straight from Cricut® Design Space!
Since my stamp & die stash is still missing hockey-themed sets (working on it! 😉), I turned to Cricut® Design Space to create:
✔ A hockey net – Scaled to fit perfectly in the layout!
✔ A hockey player – Print-and-cut perfection, ready to take on the ice!
💡 Why Design Space? The flexibility to resize, tweak, and adjust every element meant I could fit everything exactly where I wanted, keeping the design balanced and full of movement!
🖤 The CTMH Hockey With Heart Stamp – The Perfect Final Touch!
To tie everything together, I stamped the CTMH Hockey With Heart image in CTMH Intense Black Ink and gave it a power boost with color:
✔ Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker – To color the heart with bold, vibrant energy!
✔ Black marker – To sharpen the puck details and give it extra contrast!

🏒 Step 3: Bringing It All Together – Placement & Title Design
With all the embellishments prepped and ready, it was time for the best part—piecing everything together for that game-winning layout!
📍 Positioning & Adhering the Elements
I started by arranging all the pieces on the page to find the perfect balance. Once everything looked just right:
✔ Foam tape for the WIN! – I popped up key embellishments to give this layout depth and dimension. No flat, boring pages here!
✔ Typed journaling – because the story MATTERS! – Every epic moment deserved a place in this layout, without overcrowding the design.
💡 Pro Tip: Layering embellishments with foam tape adds that WOW-factor and gives your layout a pro-finished look!
🏆 Creating the Title in Design Space®
Usually, the title is my MVP and the first thing I design… but this layout had a larger title space than usual. So I switched things up and:
✔ Placed my embellishments first – Gotta make sure everything fits like a glove!
✔ Sized the title accordingly – Making sure it was bold, eye-catching, and balanced while still letting the embellishments shine!
And just like that—this power-play layout was complete! From the ice to the scrapbook, this one’s a total hat trick! 🏒🔥
